When I got my first fleshlight .. sorry, I mean modeller... it would've been early 2000's. I only started playing guitar in 2004. Got a PodXTLive and a Pod 2.0 around that time, so I pretty much started out on modellers.
When I got my first proper valve amp - a Laney VH100R - I was in hogs...
I'll happily use Axe FX III or Helix for live effects. But for amps?? Nah... I just aint really down with it.
When I rock out even just at home through a valve amp, I can improvise whole songs, riffs, structures, ideas... record it all down in one fluid motion. Then approach it and edit it...
I think I could've scooped the mids on the D-Moll a bit more. I tried to rely on the mid-cut, but I realised after doing the clip that the mids on the channel EQ were quite high.
I love all three amps to be honest, but yeah... VH4 and Hagen were the ones I preferred for this.
It genuinely is a generational shift. I was never happy with the Axe II. But very happy with the Axe III - the amps are better, and so are many of the effects.
I'm still not over the 7 hour round-trip it took to go and get it! :ROFLMAO:
Absolute ballache of a day, but well worth it. I've got quite a few amps, but recto quickly became a keeper. I wish I had gotten one ages ago now, but back in like 2006 or something, I had a Rectoverb combo, and it...
So I watched Fluff's video on his multi-watt versus his Rev F, and I wasn't convinced he'd dialled his in well enough. I did this today which I think sounds pretty great:
What do people generally think about Rev F and Rev G, versus the MW's ???
I tried a Rev F at a studio once, and without a...
I did a quick shootout with some Tool riffs, using the VH4, Hagen, and D-Moll.
I'm using my real Egnater 4x12 cab here. Not the Suhr loadbox. The loadbox just lives there.
SM57 and 421 on the two bottom speakers of the cab. Speakers are Chinese V30's.
I have a 2001 silverface VH4, and I do agree that channel 4 is more compressed than channel 3, and channel 3 quite often feels a bit undergained to me. But then when I turn the amp up loud, that perception shifts slightly and channel 3 feels perfectly fine with the gain set to 3 o'clock.
I feel...
Right now I am really digging Holocene by 'The Ocean' which came out this year. It is more post-metal than true kvlt metal I guess, but I dig it a lot.
Crikey, when I think about the money I've spent on gear in the last 20 years.
What I would say is, selling something you really like to take a punt on something you have supreme GAS for, but effectively know nothing about, is just about one of the dumbest things you can do. At least for me. I...
I would never sell my Marshall Satriani JVM. I sold one in the past, and really regretted it, so bought another. I would also never sell my Diezel VH4 nor D-Moll, and I'm pretty confident I wouldn't sell my multi-watt Dual Rectifier.
