My best luck with the Mark II/III is to run the VOL 1 rather high and the lead drive lower, with the Master at least on 3 or better. The other way around seems to lack much punch and/or dynamics.
I had an '83 Pacer Imperial with the "beak" headstock and an '86 Baretta with the satin finish "pointy" one. The '83 guitar played and sounded MUCH better. Traded off the wrong one for my '73 Les Paul goldtop.
I had the OS Recto cabs when I got my first C+, and have since moved to the metal grille 4x12 with EVM-12L speakers. I can tell that those are the cabs that the C+ were built to go with. The mark series are midrange heavy amps, and the V30's are midrange heavy speakers, hence the deep cut on the...
I agreed to trade guitars with my boss's brother back in the late 1980's His was a newer Heritage Reissue Flametop Cherry Sunburst, mine was a ratty ass 1973 Goldtop with some road rash already on it. The trade was to be for a month of time. I loved the look of his guitar, but I just could not...
I "stopped" when I got my 1973 goldtop LP back in 1988, and my first MESA Mark IIC+ over 12 years ago. EVH Stealth halfstack snuck it's way in, but that was when they were only going to make 100 of them. Very few amps in all these years. Marshall Lead 12>Laney AOR 100>1978 MESA Mark I> MESA...
The guy that turned me on to electric guitar back in the late 1970's got on "the powder" during the mid 1980's and let his LPC "Black and Gold" go to one of these pawn shop crooks. Heartbreaking for me to see that happen, but to this day I have steered clear of the hard drugs. Not worth the HIGH.
I bought a 1973 Deluxe back in the mid 1980's for $375.00 . Routed it for full size humbuckers (SD PG neck and CC bridge) now. Paid Gibson Repair and Restoration(about 3 times what I had in the guitar) in 2012 to do a plane and refret , and outfitted it with a new bone nut, Tonepros ABR-1 and...
I have 3 original C+ DRG amps. One of them(early 1985) has not had service by Mike B. I thought of having the ++ mod done to it. I'm afraid that it will lose the MOJO, that it has, as it stands.
Tungsram in V1,V2 and RFT in V3,V4 of my C+ amps with Sylvania 6L6 or 6L6/6CA7 combo power tubes. The RFT helps tame the brightness in the lead channel, while the Tungsram keeps the clean channel very clear.
