Was talking to a friend for the first time in a loooooong time and this subject came up. I would like to hear the tapes with Bon singing on BnB. You got to think he died in Feb 1980 and Back n Black was in record stores in July 1980. Me thinks that recording was already in the can when he died or at least heading that way and they were pressed for a singer. The reason would be to hear if there were different lyrics etc. Anyways I think its plausible but its funny it was never talked about. In my opinion they had a pretty big following already but got lucky the public accepted Brian as the new singer, cause just listen to the first 4-5 records and there is no denying who the man was. Later AC/DC is not even in the same league in my opinion.

Their popularity tripled after BnB though...wasn't close when you compare. Not many bands, after changing singers got even better or far more popular. Iron Maiden is another...Bruce took them to a whole other level.

It would be interesting though; if those tapes are out there. For sure.

Well I paid 4 dollars to see Let There Be Rock tour and I paid 8-9? to see Back in Black tour for me a big let down. Didnt compare at all

Actually Bon could sing
That's what I was saying wasn't it brother?

Specifically, that he "had a "theatrical" / gravitas aspect to his singing and performances that Brian fell well-short of".

IOW, a better singer. Emotional impact is desirable. Brian had plenty of grit but not a Helluva-lot else.

Bon was a first rate frontman; not that Brian wasn't but it was a different kinda thing...some vocalists own the crowd no matter what. That was Bon..kinda like a DLR type persona.
And, he was the original. I was too young to get into them when Bon was around. BnB came out right when I started listening to the harder stuff.

I feel lucky as an AC/DC fan to have two awesome versions of that band. I mean I love both singers. Can't think of another band other than Van Halen that had success with two singers like that at high levels. VH isn't a good comparison either because a lot of folks can't stand the Sammy stuff.

... and the number of hitoons with Sammy was severely-limited compared to Diamond Dave.

Bon was by design like a baretta , ak47 or a sumurai sword inherently evil and unholy and he knew it. There was no other nor will there ever be any man in his league.
Can you imagine him singing hells bells or shoot to thrill?
Bon was Satan’s henchman and was recalled back to hell on other business.

Brian was and is great but there’s nothing sinister in his DNA behind the snarl.
He seems like a nice guy but he’s just not burning the 9th ring like Bon was born to die for.

Always preferred Brain’s possessed banshee wailing on BIB, FTATR and FOTS over Bon’s drunken sailor hoedowns

Wasn’t he put into a car trunk (or boot as they call it in England), drunk, and died from exposure during winter? Unbelievable.
