I don't know what to vote for...
I've never heard of the Lil Fokker before this thread and the Archon seems to be yet another Recto slayer with mixed reviews.
Not much to get excited about, 'know what I'm sayin'?
I experimented with Tung Sol, EHX and JJ preamp tubes. Running mostly EHX (with a couple Tung Sol because I didn't have enough EHX tubes) the amp took on that scooped, sort of industrial high gain sound. Significant improvement to the clarity and the rhythm sound became more of what I'll call...
IMO, it's the JJ ECC83 that come stock in the Mark V. More upper mids, less bottom end and more compression than EHX 12AX7 Mesas used to come with.
I got bored one day and pulled the Russian 2s out of my old 2 ch Recto and stuffed them in my Mark V. I learned a lot that day. Now they're in...
I'm the exact opposite. I run the amp moderately bright and bleed treble before it hits the amp.
I used to do it by running long (30-40 foot) cables, but more recently I've dropped my cable length to 20 and roll the tone pots down. I think the cable I'm using now is around 28p/ft. I've used...
You could call Mesa and tell them you have a line on a 2 ch Recto you can get for cheap that has bad LDRs and get an estimate to repair them, factor in shipping, then decide if the amp is still a good deal or use the information as ammo to negotiate the price downward.
Considering there's a Rev...
I've used those before, but I never thought of using a wah post dirt for it. I usually use an EQ to cut out the top/bottom end to make it sort of AM radio sounding.
I played 11-52 for years.
Then I bought a Les Paul and the shop set it up with new 10s instead of the 11s I asked for. The thing sounded awesome until I put 11s on it myself, then it sounded dull and didn't scream the same way anymore. Fought with it for a few months before switching back to...
One thing I've learned the hard way is that Marks change as they get hotter. At this stage I believe Mesa knows this and it's intentional as every Mark and Mark inspired design have tubes down chassis in head form whereas their other amps go tubes up.
The way it worked for me is that I'd fire...
When someone complains about mud with a Recto I usually suggest:
1) turn down the bass
2) take a serious look at your pickups (garbage in = garbage out)
3) if it's been awhile then it might be time for new power tubes and/or phase inverter.
4) remember that the treble knob is the most...
The thing with the V:25 is that 10w/25w is Triode/Pentode... But both modes are still class A/B.
The Mk V's 10w mode is class A, which if I understand things correctly will have even less headroom than the V:25s 10w mode.
Add in the big V's variac, triode and tube rectifier options and I...
I have a Mark V and my experience was totally opposite to Heritage Softail, but unlike him I wasn't trying to make it sound like a Vintage Boogie, Recto or a Marshall and was totally happy it sounded like a Mark V.
I like Hammett's solos. The guy has his own thing going on and I like it.
I use one when covering Dirt, Bulls on Parade and Electric Funeral (oddly enough, all three of those songs are considered poor use of Wah by the rules proposed in this thread), but I seldom use one on my own because I...

Nevermind... found it. Around 2004-2007 they had a Les Paul LE model with those features. The few pictures I found on Google had similar stark white binding.
