My daughter was gifted an Epi White Flying V (she’s a huge Metallica fan) however it has a large crack in the neck. I need to bring it in for repair, so I am wondering if anyone has recommendations for a luthier around Chicago. Preferably SW suburbs - Orland Park/Joliet area. Thanks

I tend to prefer lower/medium output pickups and then will push the amp vol a bit harder. The '57 Classics are great. I have them in my LP Traditional, although the bridge is actually a '57 Classic+ but I love it just as much :D Very nice p'ups IMO :thumbsup:

Thanks for the response. I kinda guessed they might change a bit. Maybe I'll leave them as is for the time being. They just bite/twang/snap so nicely that I don't want to give in to any changes :lol: :LOL:

My Tele pickups are both microphonic (the bridge more than the neck), but I absolutely LOVE their tone. They are CS '51 Nocasters and while the standard hum doesn't bother me at all, they do start to squeal when the volume gets up there and/or gain is added. So, if I have them wax-potted...

Can't argue with either of these. The Vintage Modern seems to be a love/hate amp for most people - I am on the loving side :D . To give it a little extra, I boost it with a Barber Direct Drive and it absolutely rips. The Deluxe Reverb is also a great choice and without a doubt the amp I play...

I am in agreement with the other posters in that I never cared for the S-1 switching. I never really found a use for it. I also was never crazy about the SCN pickups. I thought they lacked a bit of the classic Strat tone :dunno: They are solid guitars though. With the locking tuners, mine...

I don't think they have a single amp made in the UK anymore, unless there's some super high-end model that I'm not aware of.

If he doesn't need a pure clean tone at gig volumes, or you guys will be mic'ed, the Deluxe Reverb is a good choice. It fairly small and portable (it's a 1x12), but can still really push some volume at 22 watts. Lows tend to be a little loose, but they're not too bad. Great amp for leads...
