Finally talked my buddy into getting a Fender combo and ditching his line6....but I know nothing about Fender amps but ai know his style and he plays a tele. Im gonna help him put together a pedalboard as well with a few decent pedals

So what Fender amp and what few pedals? I was thinking like an OCD and a Carbon Copy for starters...and a wah. Actually that's probably all he needs, and a tuner of course ;)

I like the Twin and Deluxe myself. If you can find a Tone Master .... that is my favorite.

If he doesn't need a pure clean tone at gig volumes, or you guys will be mic'ed, the Deluxe Reverb is a good choice. It fairly small and portable (it's a 1x12), but can still really push some volume at 22 watts. Lows tend to be a little loose, but they're not too bad. Great amp for leads especially when you get the volume up and get that bit of compression.

If you need a bit tighter bass and some more clean headroom, I'd look at the Vibrolux (35 watts) or Super Reverb (40 watts). The Vibrolux is a 2x10 and the Super is a 4x10. The Vibrolux will probably be more expensive and difficult to find than a Super, though.

The Twin is a heavy beast that will remain clean even when your ears are bleeding. It's an 80 watt 2x12. IMO, it's pretty impractical for most situations because it's so loud and you wont be able to push the tubes all that hard before you've drowned everybody out. If one of his tones needs to be a pure clean at high vol though, then maybe he could consider the Twin, but I still think the smaller wattage amps are a much better choice. The Vibrolux and Super should be able to stay clean at gig volumes too, especially with Tele single coils.

Yes, a 1x12 is perfect since he's a lazy ass and hates to carry stuff ;)

I'm gonna check into the deluxe reverb. Thanks

Classic Rock??? Get a Marshall. Marshall Vintage Modern! Paul Gilbert uses the combo

+1

Also the Supersonic is not a bad amp at all in combo form.

I've got a 50watt bassman he'd that rocks, but you need a cab...

 Good post!!, my only change would have been "the Deluxe Reverb is a GREAT choice"

Indeed! I love mine

Depends on if he needs crystal cleans, or wants to push the tubes a bit for some gain really IMO.

I am partial to the Vibrolux myself.

i'd also give a vote to a supersonic , try before you buy ofc =)

Tone Master if you can find one. Other than that, my personal preference is for the 4 x 10 configurations. I hooked up my old Marshall 4 x 10 to some "Modern high-gain" amps a few weeks ago for giggles and was amazed at how the 4 x 10 really brings the "classic"tone out of just about any amp.

+1 on the Bassman head. There are some companies that make combo cabs for the Bassman chassis so you can put it into a combo. They are pretty inexpensive compared to the other Fender combos. My first choice would be the Blonde bassman heads, followed by the Blackface and Silverface bassmans. Bassman heads will have more muscle than your typical BF or SF Fender amp.

Can't really go wrong with a Deluxe Reverb either. That would be my second choice.

The Fender supersonic 22 looks interesting, never tried one though.

I also like the Prosonic, which gets great rock tones. It was available as a 2x10 combo or head.

Hey guys, what's with the re-issues? Are they ok?

and what is a good price for a used one? (Deluxe Reverb 1x12)

I had a Twin for a couple years and that thing weight a friggin metric ton. Totally unpracticle for a gigging musician as it doesn't cover a lot of ground, and despite what others may say, sounds like garbage with an OD/Distortion pedal in front of it. A purely studio amp IMO.

A Deluxe would be my suggestion as well. Decent cleans, decent dirt and not going to break your back or the bank. If you are looking for the Fender type thing, this is a great choice. Also, the Bassman rocks as well, but is much more difficult to find in a combo.

The Deluxe reverb reissue is solid, I used to own one. Wished I would have removed the bright cap on the vibrato channel before selling though. I later played through a '67 Deluxe Reverb that a friend owns and it blew me away, I liked it alot better than the DRRI, but I never compared them head to head.

If you have $500-600, then go for a used DRRI. If you have around $1000, get a Silverface Deluxe Reverb, and if you have $1500+ get a BF deluxe reverb or a new boutique clone.

I wish Fender would reissue the BF Vibrolux Reverb. Those are cool amps. The Custom Vibrolux Reverb they have out now is not the same thing.

Bassman Combo Reissue with some pedals...totally kills. My buddy has this rig & it sounds like Christ!!
