I had an early block letter 5150 and the core tone was pretty much dead-on what I hear when I listen to that era. Even the stock Sheffield speakers were good.
When you get those amps up to volume, they really do sound great.
The 5150 was just getting finished up when they recorded FUCK. He did use the SLO, CAE pre, and the 5150 proto on the album. As for the guys saying that he didn't use the 5150 live, I'd say you're wrong. My 5150 sounded just like that live tone, minus the harmonizer. There was no secret to...
I have a SDE3000 in my amp's loop, set to like a shimmer chorus setting. If I add a Boss DD500 on my board, does it matter what order it goes into the FX loop? Only the SDE and the Boss will be in the loop.
LOOP SEND --> Boss --> SDE --> LOOP RETURN
OR
LOOP SEND --> SDE --> Boss --> LOOP...
The impact the wood has on the tone also will vary depending on the amount of gain and distortion you're using. If you have a really high gain tone, then the wood isn't nearly as important, compared to as if you were plugging directly into a clean amp.
What are the two pedals on your board? Expression & Wah? What are you using the expression for? Or maybe it's a volume pedal? Great looking rig. . .I'm considering building this exact board to use for those gigs where you just don't want to screw with loading in gear.
I wanted to get your thoughts on the Steinberger GM2T or GM4T, older model from the Newberg Factory.
I'm considering hunting one down, but wanted to hear some experiences.
Ask Tom Anderson, John Suhr, etc - most of the guys who have experience in building great guitars will tell you that the Kahler Steeler is a superior version of the OFR. I'm not arguing - as the last poster mentioned, it's pretty commonly known.
Totally agree on the Kahler Steeler - superior to any Floyd present or past.
Floyd Rose sued them so they had to stop making them. Floyd knew it was better than his.
I never really had a problem with the loop. I've only ever put either a roland sde3000 or a chandler echo in it, and it worked and sounded great each time.
I think it might sound bad with pedals or other effects, but like Shark said, it was designed for the rack gear of the 80s like Lexicon...
Interesting. Not sure about this. I have a 1971 Superlead that was modded by Dave and it sounds amazing, but I haven't played one of his amps yet in person, so i can't compare apples to apples. My Marshall definitely has a raw sound to it though.
I've done this for years in 2 guitar bands, it works fine. The other guitarist didn't use any effects though, so that might have helped a little. The trick is to use it as an ambient effect. One or two repeats, with a hi cut so it's subtle. It'll be a little more noticeable on solos if your...
Had one years ago. Loved it!
Ended up selling it many years ago after deciding it was just too delicate to lug around in my rack. You have the right setting though -- .99!!!
Bogner Blue should have plenty of gain.
The Plexitone has a TON of gain. Probably too much.
Any of these pedals will be pretty good in front of a semi-dirty plexi style amp. It's in front of a bone clean Fender amp that you'll have MUCH more trouble finding something to get the job done.
