So who do you guys recommend for getting the loop upgraded. I checked with Dave Friedman and he said he can do it, will just take a long long while. He is 'slammed'. Any recommendations on someone who can do this upgrade without holding onto my amp for 5 or 6 months ??
Great sounding clip btw!
Even better yet, forget the loop altogether and run delay in the line out to another amp for a wet/dry setup. Time-based effects always sound better the farther down the chain they go. I'd put a delay unit between the amp and the speakers/cab if I could. Someone needs to invent a delay pedal with a built-in load device so it can go between amp and speaker!

Yeah dry/wet system with the slave out is the way to go. Just grab a high wattage SS combo to run the wet signal, that'd be way cheaper than modding the loop and yields a clearer wet sound.
Also when you mod the loop position, the sound of the amp changes slightly (because you'd be rearranging the gain stages). That's probably why Soldano never changed it although almost everyone thought the loop sucked. If you are picking up an used one with the loop already modded that'd be cool, but I wouldn't really go spend hundreds to mod a stock one.
Exactly. Why mod the loop when there are other answers without the tone being effected. I use to run W/D/W and used an SLO without a loop. But if I don't want to haul all that I am perfectly fine running the 2290 in the loop. If you want to mod the loop go ahead - but quit saying it sucks. It doesn't suck - it just doesn't work the way you want for your application. Plenty of guys that it is fine for. Plenty of major players who aren't saying the loop sucks. It's just ridiculous to keep saying because it doesn't do what YOU want it must suck. And time based fx don't ALWAYS sound better further down the chain. For what you are after that might hold true, but there are plenty of examples of people doing differently then the conventional opinion and it works out great. Proclaiming absolutes in regards to almost anything, and especially something as creative as music, is just wrong.
Dude. 30 years. This amp has been out 30 years. Mike Soldano said in an interview he thinks the loop sucks. Why don't you write him an angry letter instead of arguing about it on a forum.

Give him a call and ask him, If he had it his way, he wouldn't even put a loop in any of his amps (he doesn't like them in general). But he's not gonna change the SLO because people would get their panties in a wad.
I've had dinner with him. Heard him talk about it. Asked him about it. He made it to accommodate rack gear in the late '80s. If he says it sucks now then he caved to public panties in a wad pressure

And yes 3 of the 4 SLOs I have do not have a loop. So he doesn't think of it as OEM. But since I spoke to him directly, in person, it isn't an argument, it's a fact. If he has since re-evaluated then so be it - it still works for me, and if I'm the only person alive who doesn't think it sucks then so be it. I didn't say it was the Holy Grail, but I find it works great in the right equipment - so suck is a little harsh.

Peace out as they say .
