I noticed some of EVH's greatest solos are on top of an impressive chord progression that resolves to a nice finish. The issue could be that in order to do that he or James would have to compose an interesting rhythm track for him to solo over. I think that's the key to great solos (sometimes). Otherwise he's kinda stuck having to solo over E...again. Just a suggestion for Kirk.

I like the solo, I think it's fine even though I'm tired of kirkwah, at least it doesn't sound shreddy. I wonder what his solos would sound like without it.

I'm in the process of building an EVH frankenstrat, I just think it's a great looking guitar, something to have as a show piece. I don't think I would ever gig with it unless it turns out really awesome to play, then I might have to repaint it. I just had an old strat lying around so I thought...

I agree. I think he has good musical taste as in forming melodies and groove but his recorded tone very much sucked.

Yeah that's true, it's much better these days. I guess I was comparing the old tone to the new one overall.

So the new ones he uses now? I understand many people don't like his tone now, are you saying in this case the speakers are fine but not the amp?

Are these pre-rola's too old for consideration?

How do you know if their pre-rola? By the codes? I guess that's the thing, I'm not necessarily looking for these because of cost but if someone was selling you'd want to be able to verify.

Sorry for these basic questions but I'm in the market for those greenback's Ed used in the 70's. What am I looking for exactly? Or what should I avoid? I know they're 25w but I hear stuff like pre-rola and something about the cone construction that's specific to these. I also understand...
