I must be the exception....
I gigged with my 5150 Combo for over 10 years and was completely happy until I played through a Revolution. I got one a couple months later and had a couple mods done and I'm in tone heaven. It's been just over two years now. I only use a couple pedals and they're all...
So far so good. I like having it on my board, hands free. Like the above poster, the TU-12 has moved to bass duty.  I do miss the needle however, it's been a bit of an adjustment.
The buffer input on my Voodoo Lab pedal switcher actually is not bad. I do use that input when I have to run a longer cable from the pedal board to the amp at larger venues. Pedals to me are a neccesary evil. I run a tuner, boost, chorus, delay, each on their own loop. 90% of the time, however...
True Bypass is not overrated!!
If you can't hear the difference between a cable straight in and tour signal passing through a diode, your amp sucks!!! :D
When I first started joining chat forums and "For Sale" boards, I was partnering with my boss buying and selling collectible firearms. He was a SASS Cowboy shooting champion, and everybody had kinda Old West toughguy sounding handles. I'm in AZ the copper state, and it's also a pit viper, so the...
Hey Greazygeo, I didn't want to hijack your thread. Here's some pictures of my '04 Rev 1 showing the mods. New style power tube socket board, Kleen channel gain mod (Off-Low-High) and Revolution Plus transformer.
They're a little blurry, too much coffee this morning I guess!
I stayed with the 5881's for two reasons; it's loud enough that I always use a Hotplate anyway, and the Rev1 chassis locates the transformer so close to one of the tube sockets that it cannot physically accommodate the larger bottle tubes, so my choice of tubes that would fit would be limited...
Geeez, I don't know the "why" I just know that you can indeed hear a big difference, especially if you are trying to get a saturated yet not buzzy or "metal" kind of gain tone going.
Here was my initial reaction after the mod:
"A couple weeks ago, I had a Plus model output transformer put in...
Cool! The new transformers sound great. I put a Plus output transformer in my Series 1 and it really fattened everything up. You can get really nice lower gain crunch tones and really creamy cleans out of them, but due to the metal reputation you hardly hear any clips like that.
Distortus Maximus!
I don't own one, but got to try one out at the factory booth. Pretty cool, blindfolded you'd swear you were playing straight in to an amp.
I've only had one set neck guitar that worked out for me, but it was stolen.
By far, I've been way happier with bolt ons.
The only bolt on guitar that did NOT work for me was a GMW.
Thump is totally correct, play before you buy, trust people who you've built a face to face relationship...
