I don't think so. It's versatile in a different way I suppose. I probably sound like a broken record, but you can't be averse to extreme settings. Reading some replies here, I think some players are, which is cool. I get it. For example, you CAN get pristine clean on the green channel with the...
Just got a Stealth half stack a while back. Some thoughts...
I'm a product of 70s and 80s rock guitar (been doing this a LONG time), so I'm not necessarily into super high-gain tones. The Stealth can be a monster. Every lover of all things metal should run out and get this amp immediately...
It's a tricky amp if you want to use it for anything other than metal, like me. I need metal and just about everything else.  A preamp tube change and a very easy, minor mod can lower the gain if you don't mind voiding the warranty. I haven't done any of that...yet. I keep the gain...
Only had mine a month or so now. Couple of rehearsals and lots of messing around time at gig volume. Not one issue so far. I haven't looked inside yet, but outwardly, it seems built like a tank.
They changed the footswitch on these to a multi-pin config. No more 1/4" cable like the originals...
I read about the 2015 LP changes before I actually got my hands on one to try. I balked at first, but then thought maybe the changes were geared to appeal to the younger generation of players (robo-tune, wider, flatter neck, etc.). Some of it actually sounded good on paper. I balked at the Alex...
Congrats Mailman! I was worried I was contributing a little too much to the hype on this thing, so I'm happy to hear you're digging it. You echoed my sentiments exactly. I come from a hard rock & metal background so I always gravitate to high gain amps. But my gig requires a lot of variety and I...
This is exactly what I do with my Stealth. I found out right away that hot pickups make it a little difficult to tame. Low and mid pickups are the trick. Blue channel gain between 9 and 10 o'clock is about as much as I would ever need or use for hard rock/metal. Totally agree, lower gain blue...
You're correct, Peavey made the original 5150 for Ed. Now he has his own "EVH" branded line of gear made by Fender. EVH/Fender 5150 III/5153 is all the same thing.
Peavey and Fender EVH amps are very different sounding. All of them great for metal as I'm sure you know. The EVH/Fender version...
I remember you and I having issues with the 50w blue channel flubbing. Mine flubbed with the gain at 9 o'clock no matter what my EQ settings were. I was running it through 2 EVH 2x12s too. I sold mine right away too and so did the guy I sold it to. We had a very different experience than other...
Each channel has a dedicated resonance control as well. I wouldn't classify the differences as "minor" as I've heard. Maybe slightly north of that, but I'd say they're fairly significant.
I've been an EL34 guy most of my gigging life. The =C= EL34s always sounded best in my XTC. Had to stop using them when they couldn't handle the high plate voltages any longer (at least that's what I was told). Nothing else I tried ever sounded quite right. Tons of players raved about JJs and I...
Thanks for the info man! I'm pretty good with all the ins-and-outs of loops. The voltage info you provided and the PG article had some good stuff. The EVH is the first amp I've had in 15 years or so that doesn't have a level/mix control on the loop, so I'm kinda at the mercy of it unfortunately...
Just checked the power tubes. GT-6L6-SV screen printed along side the GT logo. So "S" series, not CHP.
And thanks for the MXR tip, I'll definitely check that out. I don't think 6-band has volume sliders, so I'll probably have to look at the 10-band. Way overkill for what I'd use it for, but if...
Thanks for the replies so far guys! The crux of the matter is I really need a way to insert a solo boost in the loop with no vol drop. Doesn't look like the Boss EQ is going to do the trick with this particular amp. So far, all of my line-level fx work perfectly. I might have to find a decent...
You guys can have your VH and AxeFx, the only thing that matters in Mr. Day's hands is that Alex Lifeson LP. That's the only legal way to have a trem on an LP.
Actually, I recant my statement about VH and the Axe too.
Noticing a volume drop when I engage the loop of my 5153. I've always run a delay and a Boss EQ for a solo boost, but it seems like the Stealth's loop doesn't like the buffered Boss pedals. If I just run my TimeFactor and completely take the Boss out, everything is perfect.
I need a clean solo...
