I'm glad you all enjoyed this one.
I doubt the K100 will ever be as popular as the V30, because it isn't as bold. The V30 seems to work with any good sounding amp, while the others are more selective.
I agree that they are meticulously built, gorgeous instruments; however, I have had the opportunity to play Carl Roa's, SteveVHTs, and two that the4thlast1 owned, and I couldn't get along with any of them. They all were very stiff and had a grainy aspect to the top end, regardless of what...
I've tried over 30 different speakers and recorded every one at different times. I am really not a fan of much, as I think many speakers have a very unnatural midrange, are bloated sounding, or are hashy.
I prefer D and F.
blackie13, as I said above, I like The Reissue Greenback (F) better as...
Amp settings were OD2 Orange: Gain 10 O'clock, Bass 1 O'clock, Middle 10 O'clock, Treble 10:45 O'clock, Level 3 O'clock, Resonance 2:45 O'clock, Presence 4 O'clock, Master 11 O'clock

AND FOR THE RESULTS:
A. Celestion Chinese V30
B. Sheffield 1200
C. Fane Medusa 150C
D. Celestion Mesa V30
E. Celestion EVH Greenback
F. Celestion Reissue Greenback
G. Celestion K100
There are two oddballs in the bunch, but the rest are somewhat normal. People's top two votes are also my top two :) I guess tone ain't that subjective after all
Hey everyone,
As promised, here is the second shootout in a series of tone tests to enlighten you Rig-Talk fellows
This one will be unbiased. I'm not telling you which speaker is which, but I will allow you to choose your top three so...
A, B, C, D, E, F, and G are all different...
And the results are in folks.
1= 5150 III (you guys were tossed up between 5150 and 5150 III)
2= 5150 II (the crowd got this one right)
3= 5150 (you guys thought this was the 5150 III)
It seems like everyone wanted the 5150 III to be the one they liked.
All three amps are great in my honest...
I hope this test will help a few of you guys out with your gas and amp flipping. There are definitely a few amps out there that would have much more drastic results in a shootout like this. The JVM OD2 is pretty close to the 5150 III Channel 3 as well. When I put together my amp collection, I...
