I agree that the amp is fantastic. Every channel does something great, and it has more chunk than any Marshall out there. It is definitely a studio staple for me.
Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about moving my live rig into a rack-only format for convenience. I really don't like setting up a bunch of cables, and my amp head/roadcase takes up more space than most.
Please feel free to list your favorite valve driven, rackmount preamps and favorite tube...
Thanks for the kind words dude
Both the Recto cab (Standard) and Stiletto Cab (Traditional) are awesome. The mids are shifted down a bit on the Standard cabinets, but if you like that sound, then go for it
Rectifier cabs are not "flubby" to me; however they do have more...
Everyone who made the RFT comment is absolutely correct, it's ARS that is Chinese! I mixed up the 3 letter names ;)
Thanks for the heads up. Corrected.
I am aware that this thread is probably going to cause some heavy discussion around these parts. Please feel free to agree or disagree with me at will, as well as correct me if I am wrong.
This thread is a mirror of the thread I posted at Ultimate Metal Andy Sneap Forum...
Keep in mind that Mike voices his amps through a Freyette Fatbottom Cabinet front-loaded with V30s; you're likely to enjoy a similar cabinet with his amps.
I had that amp at my house for a bit (I was the one who made the clips for Ralph) ;)
I'm jealous you got that thing. I really wanted it, but a fourth Fortin is hard to justify
I would go for an Engl Pro V30 or a Mesa Recto V30 cabinet and you'll be good. The Recto cabs can be...
If it's a newer MD421MkII, that's part of the issue. The newer ones are very fizzy and also a bit flubby. I'd get rid of that microphone and grab a 57.
Move the cabinet around the room to find where it sounds best.
What tubes are in the Recto?
What cabinet?
Cheers,
Greg
Congrats man! I'm so glad to hear you've got another beautiful child on your hands, especially considering how your daughter came out thanks to your wife and your great parenting \m/
I have to admit, System of a Down was my favorite band for about two years, but they're really not good at all live. It's true, Daron is a shitty guitar player. He writes cool parts, but he can't keep a chord in tune, and can't get through a song without tons of flubs. Serj's vocals recorded are...
Baron amps... as soon as I got mine, I literally sold every other amp I owned, and I started over. It's hard to compete with the K2 for high gain; it gets used at my studio ALL the time.
Meshuggah doesn't even have their own signature amp yet... how long has it been now since they've spoken about that thing?
Anyhow, if you're into articulation and girth, I'd say Natas is the answer.
Great job on the video. I wish the amp were dialed in a little brighter, but the playing and selection of music is fantastic.
I kind of like the Cobra's fizz. It's part of the character of the amp in my opinion.
