What Kind of Picker Are You - Economy or Alternate?

I have been mostly a economy, even though I thought that I was alternate picking. I've been watching the Troy G videos and trying to improve. The closest that I can say my own picking style is, is Joe Stump. That video was like watching my self. My old guitar teacher said that I had Vinnie...

    80's - 90's multi-fx units vs today's units?

Agree with this. I've owned a lot of the older stuff, because that was my era and I can afford it now. The blackface Intellifex is great, the only downside is that the delays are tied to the chorus, meaning, you can't have delay without chorus. That was a little strange to me, but you can...

off-brand LP-style guitars with good build quailty?

Wow, that website is like an internet time machine to 2001. It just needs a little more flash. Great guitars though.

PEDALBOARD ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS... your thoughts on my rig

I typically run - tuner, wah, compressor, dirt/od, modulation effects (phase, flanger, chorus), delay/reverb in the loop. I have experimented with phase and flanger into dirt, as well as dirt into wah, and they change it a bit, but I prefered the way I described.

Rocktron Piranha / Prophesy- Hughes & Kettner Access anyone?

The piranha sounds like the tone on Loudness Soldiers of Fortune and similar to Fight War of Words. The downside to it was that there was no in between sounds. It was either that distortion sound or really, really, clean. The prophecy had some interesting stuff and probably sounds a lot...

    Pickups for ibanez prestige.

You are correct, I was thinking about the Blaze pickups, those were dog shit.

    Pickups for ibanez prestige.

Personally, I found the Breeds to be lifeless. I swapped them out of my universe for the Evolutions, which made a HUGE improvement to the sound.

    Pickups for ibanez prestige.

Basswood body, Super D bridge is killer! I love that combo. I have it paired with a PAF Pro, an Air Norton and Virtual Blues 2. All are great. The AN is the hottest and smoothest, the PAF is the most versatile, and the blues is single coil, so not applicable here. I should add that the...

Nova System, G Force, or G Major 2?

I have a nova and a gmaj2. I never use the Nova, it's just not as good. Why? It's setup like a stomp box array, which I don't care for. The gain or boost features only work if you use that input, which is fine, but I like to have delays in the loop, and you can't use that setup in a loop...

    Mesa Question

As others have said, I like mine better with my Marshall cab than my Mesa cab. It's a little brighter and open sounding, while still being tight. The Mesa cab is a perhaps a tad bit more tight, but it is also darker and a tad more focused.

Ordering a guitar from Japan on EBAY

I've thought about ordering some clones from Japan, how is the fit and finish? Are they Chinese/Korean, or Japanese builds and how are the pickups in them?

    new yngwie is......

The drummer credited is his son. Lannerbach (spelling) is Yngwie's real last name. I doubt that he played, or if he did, Yngwie quantized and replaced it with samples, so it sounds like a drum machine awash in reverb.

Recent Dokken Live Clip. Not too bad!!

I loved Dokken when I was a kid, hell George is the reason that I play guitar. Having said that, I like having Lynch Mob and Dokken, both have 5-10 songs post Dokken that I love, and having two bands, means that I get to hear the best of both. Jon is a KILLER guitar player and nails George...

    New house/basement advice

I would hold off on the rugs until after you have a good rain. Buying a house in the dryer winter months makes every basement look good. Wait until you get a nice spring shower to assess any leaks, then do the fit and finish.

    Guitar doesn't feel right

The UV is a basswood body, where as your 3120 is mahogany (I believe). I swapped the pickups on my UV to an Evo and a PAF Pro and it made a world of difference. The stock pickups are shit...I'm not sure what Steve was thinking or hearing back in the day. I have only played the old RG 7...

    Duncan JB

I have one in a Prestige, mahogany body, maple top. It has a nice even tone, a little on the brighter side, but that could be the wood. It's not overly hot, especially compared to some of my Dimarzio's. My amp settings are modeled after Paul Gilberts Marshalls (start with the Scorpions...

    Floyd Rose Block Upgrades

I have a brass block that I put in an older Kramer Focus. The original Floyd block was actually pretty thick, but there was a change in tone. It's a bit more resonant and brighter. I did have issues though with the thickness affecting pulling up on the bar. With the original, I could pull up...
