Agree. Unless the filter caps are malfuctioning, just leave them
Changing the coupling caps could theoreticaly change (improve) the tone, but in this case 1) the stock polyester film caps are decent & 2) the choices available with lead spacing that will fit the board are limited.
When I did my...
So I think you need to make the distinction between the filtering setup for the 50 watt vs 100 watt amps.
On the 100 watt amps, you can control the values for the mains, screens, and PI individually.
On the 50 watt amps, there are only 3 cap cans.
Typically, that means the mains filter cap can...
Jeezus, I'm an idiot :doh::doh::doh:
Found this from 2017.

I even posted a pin out diagram and a portion of a CCV scheme in this old thread.
Fuk me I'm getting old. I can't even remember what I had...
Thanks (y)
I think you're right, and it doesn't matter if using 2 of the same type.
Seems as though the most common config is the emitters connected together, and the bases connected to the MV and ground respectively.
That's what is shown on a lot of the schematics I have, but you never know...
So when using these as clippers, we use the emitter and base connections.
So far, so good.....
Does it matter if the 2 transistors are connected together emitter to emitter or base to base?
Is it better to do it one way for the MPSa06 and the other way for 2N5400?
It's been a while since I...
Got ya
A minty '65 Super Reverb is the best "big three dimensional clean American sound" I've ever heard personally.
It was for sale at a local shop, but had a small issue with the foot switch. They asked me to repair it, so I had it at my place for a bit.
The clean sound was...
Yup!
And pretty sure it's the same guy with the "prototype" Soldano iron for 4k as well.
You know, the iron that was so good, they decided not to use it
:doh::doh::doh:
Yeah, this huckster is getting to be quite the legend on the Toronto KIJIJI.
He has a couple different user names, but you can tell it's the same guy.
Check out his other ads....:hys:
Giving all us Canuckle-heads a bad rap :doh::doh:
I was thinking about contacting him, but I just can't be...
I was going to suggest the Marshall SC20 for low wattage vintage Hendrix tones, but the OP seemed stuck on Fender-ish stuff.
A mini Dirty Shirley or Pink Taco could work as well.
Hell, the Friedman master vol is so good, a regular Dirty Shirley would kill for this application and would still...
These guys are well regarded for their Fender style builds. Probably a better option than anything actually made by Fender these days.

Also check out the Suhr Hombre. May be a little too Brown sounding though, but high quality Fender -inspired build with Trem...
On my local Buy and Sell page.
Only 10k !
It's the ultra-rare "Yikes" mod
It does come with a 295 owned by the guy from Rammstein, and a 4x12, but seriously....10K?

Good advice.
I'd go with the 35 watt plate dissipation number in the bias calculation as well.
My experience has been that most amps designed around a 6550 / KT88 power section are getting all the drive & distortion from the preamp.
I'm not sure anyone designs a KT88 / 6550 amp with the idea...
Beautiful build, and great playing as always
Amp sounds freakin' great!
Definitely something a little different from the "modded Marshall" thing, and covers a lot of ground. Awesome
GLWS!
Eh...Black brown yellow ...Black Brown Orange...
Easy mistake to make if you're just a middle aged house wife stuffing boards down in Milton Keynes for some spare change in 1982....
Wouldn't be the first time some fukked up values got stuck on a Marshall board
Time and / or heat could have...
Yeah I really liked the EVH as well.
I'd go with the EVH & a Suhr RL.
Anyone interested in load boxes and IR's should do some research on impedance curves.
I own the Suhr RL / IR.
The main thing for me was that the Suhr RL felt and responded EXACTLY like when my amps are connected to a 4x12...
I sincerely hope you are referring to the comment above your's about " suffering thru LaBrie just to hear Petrucci"
If you are referring to the vid posted by the OP.........
Garbage?
You can't be serious?
