How can I record a high quality DI whilst monitoring amp?

The axe has an unprocessed DI line out. I don't have one, but couldn't you bypass the amp head sim. Run the axe 4 cable method w/ head and dummy load with line out in the loop. Use the axe to load IR's. It will even do separate dry di and processed tracks through the digtal outputs.

    Peavey EVH 5150 Choke mod

Generally speaking, yes you can try the choke without changing the screen resistors. But if they are known to be shitty and fail for no reason then change them. They are supposed to fail during a bad tube failure.

    Modding amps

I would build the line out in an external box and buy the Jensen transformer. For learning I think it is best to start at the stock 1959 spec. Mess around with jumpering the channels, make the bass channel less muddy, etc. The AC/DC sounding start point. Exhaust the plexi options. Try the...

GAS dilemma: Ampeg jet sj-12r or Fender bandmaster reverb 68

One thing to watch out for in those old Fenders is a conductive circuit board. Over years the board absorbs moisture and lets a little DC get across. Watch for scratchy pots. Measure the DC voltage at ground. There are lots of Fender clone builders out there. Maybe a new one would be most reliable?

    TC electronics sentry noise gate

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hoTGyxbPto I bet it works perfect. You can still close it fast. It is like 3 gates in one. One each for high, mid, low. Close the lows fast and let the highs and mids tail off longer. They have a new multi band compressor pedal called Hyper Gravity that looks...

Silent Recording with Fryette Powerstation (total beginner)

Two Notes is a 30 day trial. Comes with two cabs. An 800 Marshall and 2x12 Hiwatt. After that you need to buy at least one $7 cab. The Ownhammer and Redwirez are cool too. Download Ignite Amps NadIR to load them. It's good to have both.

desk monitors for recording and modelers(Kemper and AxeFX

I have two sets of 5"s and no sub. It's fine. A lot of people say that 8"s are too much for a small untreated room. But really, you could use 12" 3-way home stereo speakers just for jamming. You should go to a big music store and try some out with some familiar tunes on your phone.

Who is using/has used Weber Beam Blockers?

I think beam blockers would definitely throw off the standard cap edge mic setting. Worth trying though. I have an old metal handle marshall 4x12 that a prev owner painted the basketweave grill cloth black and stripped the tolex. It was always the best sounding cab of mine and all my friends...

Recording question. How to sound like a pro.

To variac... or NOT to variac.. THAT! is the question....

18ma sounds a little low, the bias supply resistor might need to be swapped. I would keep the variac at 100v if you want to be safe. And get the bias up in the 30+ma range. (Double check that #) Lots of guys go lower than 90v without stripping problems. That's the risk you take if you want to...

Recording Guitar With Load Boxes and Impulse Responses

That was an excellent video. The Fryette sounded best. But like he said with some eq-ing you could get a lot of those frequencies back. Really just rips near 250 and lowpass at 8-10K.

Troubleshooting a friends Hot Rod Deluxe. A little help?

Isn't V2 a 12ax_? Voltage on the plates and screens? When a tube goes like that it will usually leave carbon traces on the socket which can't be cleaned. Should probably replace it. Those ribbon cables are shitty and can be a problem. Gut it and put in a real deluxe - or a marshall

Matching phase when using two amps

People do flip the speakers but for bass I would want to push air and have them only excurse outward. Why run the cabs in series? You have 4 ohm cabs? For the Fender, maybe a buffer or clean boost pedal would invert the phase 180 on 1 channel.

Jose Arredondo modded Marshall on eBay

Majors have never been as valuable as the 100 watters. I've had mine since I was 13. It was modded in '82-'83 before I had it. There was already a few guys in the neighborhood at that time that could work on amps.

    \\\\\

Sounds good to me. .022 is an interesting choice. The .68 was too much? To go further would require a partial front end tear down. Like splitting the V1 cathodes which would require running shielded wire from the inputs to V1 and mounting the 68Ks on the socket. Then setting it up like a Mod 5...
