This is from a Japanese magazine where Google lens is used to translate. It’s obvious the author also thought the Boogie was slaved into the Marshall, but was told that the Marshall was for cleans.
James used Marshall for cleans live, before he started using the JC-120 in 1989. And Kirk used Marshall for leads.
It’s interesting when you hear a live recording from the Puppets tour, it’s obvious Kirk didn’t have a clean tone. On the few clean parts he did play he just rolled down the volume...
I personally never seen the need to boost a Mark amp. With all the push/pull knobs there are many ways to make the amp super tight. I think it’s a matter of playing style as well. If you’re heavy handed and pick the strings hard you can really play with the dynamics of the amp and dial back the...
This!
I don’t know where the idea that you need to crank the treble knob on IIC+ comes from. It really kills the dynamics of the amp and makes it thin and fizzy. Then he also pulls both bright switches which adds even more fizz. IIC+ have enough gain that you don’t need to crank anything, but...
That’s a scam account, not Metallica’s official. It’s been reported and taken down several times. With clickbait titles like “Streaming 72 seasons, the full album” etc.
That’s an “old” interview they did during the pandemic btw.
This is where those frequencies are on the Aphex EQF-2. Boosting 4,6K, cutting 1,2K and boosting 120. If the pedal works the same way it should be something like this. The outer knob is the frequencies. The inner knob is the gain, where 12 o clock is +6db.
For reference, this is set as Battery...
It wasn’t necessarily pointed towards you. Just something to consider and not something I see talked about very often. It’s usually C+ sounds like this or that and not so much that the different versions sound different to each other. I certainly understand that it’s not for everybody. And yes I...
Also worth mentioning regarding the C+ (and MKIII up to Green stripe) is that there were several different versions. The 100/60W and 60W versions sounds dryer and more direct, the simul-class is more chewy and hairy. Out of the 5 C+‘s I’ve owned, the simuls sounded the best to me and does the...
Yet, Hetfield said in a 1991 interview with Guitar World that he used the same Mark II that he’d used on previous albums. Wouldn’t that be the most credible source of information? Was he lying? Did he forget what amp he’d used to track guitars just a few months earlier? Or did Bob get it wrong...
They didn’t on Puppets, that was all IIC+ power section. The Strategy 400 came out in 1987 and they first used it on AJFA.
It does make a big difference. It gets a lot ballsier and punchier. It’s got more of the low end and low mid growl. Much like a Coliseum.
My C++ simul-class Coliseum...

Anyone who is interested in what gear Metallica used should check out this awesome site and the Facebook group that goes along with it. Nothing on Load yet, but I’m sure that will come in the future.
