A friend sent me a Sweetwater link recently to a Captor X asking my opinion on it. A few days later someone from Sweetwater both called and texted me asking if they could answer any questions about the Captor X for me. That's just wildly uncool. I cleared my cookies and asked to be taken off of...
That's how I feel about my early 2000's Mesa 4x12 that everyone seems so excited about. I still have it out of nostalgia for all of the shows I've played with it, but it always sounded brittle and brash no matter what amps (dozens over the years) I plugged into it.
My old Edwards was pretty much a Les Paul shaped guitar of 1000 series LTD quality. It was fine, but I sold it and don't miss it. A Les Paul Classic is just a better guitar all around. That's not knocking Edwards at all, but it's not an apples to apples comparison. Get the Gibson and don't look...
I used to work for a retailer that was one of the first to pick up the Quilter line, and I did a bunch of YouTube demos on them back in the day. I never really cared for the drive channels, but as a clean pedal platform they're quite cool. I even owned a Quilter Aviator head for a while and...
The Koko sounded good before I took out the resister, now it sounds hilariously good. Interested to hear your findings.
Also, for you guys smarter about this stuff than I am, is this same resistor present on the Smallbox? I'm so over the moon with what removing it did to my BE-100 that now I'm...
I was genuinely considering letting it go because as great as it sounds, it just didn't work for my style of playing. I always go back to my Splawn or Wizard. This simple change though gives me more of that tightness and punch that I love about those other amps, but with a great loop and a good...
Holy crap! I just pulled the resister between the volume and treble pot, and I'm floored. Way more open, aggressive and punchy. I can also hit it harder with an overdrive or boost without it smushing out. Thanks so much for this!
The last two I had done were when I was still in Portland, OR a few years ago. I had an explorer done for $590 and my Les Paul Custom done with stainless steel for $700. That's definitely on the higher end, but it's a pricey city and their overhead is high. You can get it done for a lot less in...
Oh man! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Nice! Yeah that's what did it for me too. I have a few Suhrs and the stainless frets are just so smooth that I decided to refret this one with them too. My bridge had also collapsed, so all in one shot I did the frets, graphite nut, TonePros bridge...
Thanks! It's been a slower recovery than I would've liked, but I'm getting there.
After not being able to do a lot of playing outside of teaching and mostly using digital amp solutions for Zoom lessons, it was fun to fire this thing up and go for it. It's also cool thinking about how this...
Probably not teaching 40 guitar lessons every week would've helped immensely!
Thanks! Yep, that was me. I used to do product demos for a retailer, but that was something that I ended up doing for my own neglected YouTube channel. I enjoy making videos, but I don't really know if the...
I fractured my left wrist at the end of October, and I'm just now getting to the point where I can start pushing my playing a little again. I teach about 40 guitar lessons per week, so it's been...interesting.
I decided to fire up my 1996 Wizard Modern Classic and see if I could do any Zakk...
