It's very good! No need to have it powered on. Just connect the amp to the input and use the line-out for silent recording. Of course, impulses are needed on the DAW since the Power Station doesn't do that part. But the load is very good. I set the switches to Edge/Deep to get the closest...
Did it come new from Fryette with stripped screws and a power tube fallen out? If so, that is frustrating/disappointing! Should be an easy fix though once those screws come out. Good luck!
You have to unscrew many screws. Take out every screw attached to the top half of the black case. Those are on the sides, on top, and two on the bottom where it wraps around under at the rear.
Completely agree about setting the switches to deep/edge! But if the power station was made recently it does not need a load connected for silent recording, and doesn't even need the power to be on. They posted on TGP that serial numbers beginning with PSG have this ability. I think units made...
Yes, it can be used as a load box and with no power connected and no other speaker load connected. They made a change recently to allow this and said serial numbers beginning with PSG have the change. The prior units can apparently be modded to do this if you contact Fryette for the mod.
As a...
I think it will work. Depends on whether the Power Station line-in is balanced or unbalanced. If unbalanced it should work. It would ground (mute) the right channel and pass only the left channel in. That's what you want. If it's balanced then it will probably sound thin. That would pass only...
That's right. The iPad output is stereo and the Power Station is mono. So you need a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" mono cable setup. One easy way to do this is to get a stereo 1/8" to 2xmono RCA, and also a mono RCA to mono 1/4" adapter. Attach the 1/4" adapter to the left channel RCA output and leave the...
Best new gear purchase I've made in a long time. It's really a swiss army knife of guitar gear:
-Attenuator
-Power amp so you can run any preamp through a cab
-High quality effects loop for amps that have a tone sucking loop or have no loop at all. Loop supports both guitar level and line level...
In that video he is using Cubase as the DAW. And I'll be the voice of dissent and recommend getting Cubase. This video is actually one that turned me onto Cubase in the first place. Its drum editor is great! I'm pretty dumb when it comes to DAWs and have been through Logic, Ableton, Reaper, and...
I'm comparing the difference of the loads only, using the exact same IRs and setup otherwise. Torpedo Live's internal load vs Torpedo Live with Fryette as the load. Try the same with your setup. You just need to plug the Suhr load into the thru jack on the Torpedo Live. Compare that to nothing...
The loads have a big impact on the sound, and they all perform quite differently. Pete's video inspired me to plot out the impedance curves of the loads I have, and indeed they are all different. They sound different too. The Fryette Power Station (with switches set to Deep/Edge) plots out...
If you already have a plugin with impulses in your DAW then I think the Suhr Reactive Load looks best for the money and sound quality. You need three things to record guitar. A DI that brings the amp's signal down to line level, a load for the amp, and IRs to make the line level signal sound...
Haven't tried the Rivera, but look at the Power Station as well. I've had several attenuators, one more expensive than it, and the PS sounds the best. Added bonus is you can use it as a power amp if you ever get the Kemper in the future. Most useful piece of gear I've come across in a long time.
For the problem in the loop, try this test. Connect only a single cable from send to return. Compare that tone to when that cable is disconnected. If the tone is degraded it's either the cable or the quality of the loop. I found on some amps that using the loop itself sucks tone, no matter how...
VC4Ever I think I know which sale you are referring to. I'm shocked it didn't sell. I think it's the overall economy. It's still on life support. Good news is that if the dollar ever collapses the gear will be worth more (in dollars at least). :D
That's really interesting because I heard he practices stool holding during recording sessions. Apparently it enhances creativity. His tone is dialed in the way it is because all the loud bass frequencies help prevent encopresis from occurring. This was a big problem when they recorded Opiate...
