I've owned 2 of their basses... sent the first back, and very happily kept the second. I think for the money, the build quality is off the charts. My next 6 string will likely be a build from there.

Having pretty killer seats at the Lollapalooza with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden etc (1992), and selling them because at the time it would have cost me my job. In retrospect I should have gone :) Gear wise... quite a bit, but my birch Sonor kit probably tops the regret sell list.

Several guitars, one amp. One keyboard setup, full drumkit, bass rig, several mics, pretty good daw setup, etc. Basically enough to track / rehearse an entire band (minus a vocalist PA), but have been a solo thing for a very long time now. Day job dough used for all of it.

It can go anywhere it wants I suppose. There are a lot of trends / fads right now, but that always seems to have been the case. They will come, they will go, and they'll almost all not age very well.

Extended scale 5 string. Odds are pretty high that my next axe will be built by them as well.

The latest addition... 1990 RG550: I had owned one just like this (but red) back in the early 90's... sold it, regretted it, and have always wanted to find another with a maple fretboard. Saw this in the local shop a few weeks ago, strummed a few chords, and walked out with it :) Worked on...

Grabbed a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 a few months ago, and I'm very impressed with it. My only real nitpick is that phantom power can only be assigned to groups of pre's vs. individually.

Related story: Years back I had an RG550 with a maple fretboard that I absolutely loved, but I wound up having to part with it (long story). Fast forward 20 years or so, I walk into the local music shop today on a whim, and there's a used maple-board 550 sitting there. One debit card swipe...

Any issues putting aftermarket pups in it?

I've owned 2 of their basses, still have 1 of them. Impressive build quality all around, and I would certainly order a guitar from them. If I had a pet peeve at all, it's the slightly off sizing / screw holes on quite a few of their pickups.

Saw him at a guitar demo in the 90's (back when local places still had this sort of thing). Very funny, entertaining, and incredibly talented. He played / sang a cover of Paula Abdul's 'Straight Up' that was pretty spectacular.

I did a bit of research and built my own. Fiberglass can be sourced from places like http://www.acoustimac.com/ , and there is a wealth of design plans floating around on the web. Have fun!

I don't really hear a ton of bands trying to be Pantera at this point. Perhaps he meant more along the lines of how everyone's playing complimented each other. Not much for me to say really... they're one of the few bands I can think of that got notably heavier / more aggressive as time went...

For the local shows I occasionally go to, it's always amps being used.
