Biggest music regrets

Rush came through Salt Lake about a week ago, same week as Van Halen and had to choose between the two (looking at my EVH shoes, striped debit card, home made EVH Frankenstrat, etc I think knowing which I went to was easy) but knowing this is probably one of, if not very, last shows around here and that while I'm not huge into Rush now I know once I take the plunge I will be kicking myself I never saw them

Has anyone else had a show or piece of gear you regret not going to, getting or selling?

That Rush show and missing out on an Overkill/Kreator show in Salt Lake a few years back are my 2 big ones personally...

I wish I would've gone to more Pantera shows.

I respected their musical evolution, but the further they got from their CFH sound, the less I connected with the music...so I put attending Pantera live shows on the backburner. Still bought all their albums (and Damageplan) upon release and loved Dime's playing. Next thing you know, the band broke up, then Dime was gone. The guy played with so much JOY. Sorely missed.

A buddy of mine extended me an absolutely killer deal on my dream amp before before taking it to the market where it sold for thousands more within the hour. I had to decline, as I wouldn't have been able to make a move on it and keep the lady with circumstances at the time. Easy decision for some. but it haunts me every day.

Someday though.

Sold my first real amp, an early 80's JCM 800 because it wasn't heavy enough didn't sound metal enough. :facepalm:
Of course I didn't turn it up loud and I'd never heard of using a boost in front of it. Really want to get one of those early 2203's and an OD-1 to boost with.

I passed on seeing Stevie Ray Vaughn. A month later he was dead. I still regret it 20+ years later. I remember buying "Couldn't stand the weather" when it first came out and was floored.

I thought Pantera got better and more creative with each release and it was just really cool to see a band evolve over the years. CFH is a bit cheesy at times and it is kinda dated sounding too. It is probably my least favorite 90's era Pantera album. "The Great Southern Trendkill" is my personal fav... It's such a dark, cold, brutal sounding album and the vibe it has reeks of evil, I love it. I would have given my left nut to have seen Pantera in their prime. Reinventing the Steel was a bit of a let down, but it certainly had it's moments of greatness.

I missed seeing Alice In Chains in '09 and I kick myself for not calling into work sick to see them. A different kinda regret was selling my old Mesa/Boogie Mark III simulclass (red stripe). That amp had mojo! It was a raw, mean thrash machine... and it had that smooth lead tone that the Mark series is known for. Loved it and kick myself for selling it to support my drug habit at the time.

Regret not going to the Iron Maiden Some where back in time tour. The DVD they made of the show showed them playing Rime of The Ancient Mariner in The Izod Center in NJ which is where I would have went to see them!!!! I could have been in the DVD too!!!!! Adrians solo was epic!!!!!!

1. I was 18yr old and offered a spot in a touring lounge band. For those under 30, there used to be live music nightly at most hotels that catered to the business traveler. The band played at hotels one week at a time and worked their way from the UP (upper peninsula of MI) to Key West and back.
2. I had the money to move to LA when I was 18-19, I probably would not have made it but it would have been cool to try.
3. Alice Cooper during the goes to hell tour.
4. Ozzy when Randy was still in the band.

Passed on Pink Floyd in 1994 at Legion Field in Birmingham. Too busy at the time and I thought I could always see them later.

Sold my beloved Ibanez Iceman back in the 90's for pennies on the dollar. Can't remember why now so it must not have been that important. Best playing guitar I ever had. Tone was beautiful.

not going to see sabbath a couple of years ago. Was the hugest fan from age 14 until probably 35, but time (i'm now 44) slowly lessened their impact on me and I just thought it would be a "trip down memory lane" that would leave me cold.....seeing the DVD of the tour reignited my love for them

I guess there is still a slight chance they may come back my way before its all over

I regret not going to see many great bands in their heyday, but most of all not seeing Judas Preist circa Srceaming For Vengeance and DOTF tours. I don't have the heart to part with musical gear and have been fortunate enough to have found gear I like over the long haul. Still have many bucket list amps that are only going up in value(original Cameron stuff and Wizards).

Gear wise... quite a bit, but my birch Sonor kit probably tops the regret sell list.

Probably selling a Lee Jackson modded 800 back in 2010. That was my first modded Marshall. And it was only 600. Great amp. Missing out on Monsters of Rock tour in '88 because my military flights home were fucked up. Ended up sleeping at the airport because of all the delays.

A lot actually from turning down touring gigs to selling my original ESP Horizon Custom from 48th Street, letting go of my 50W JMP head to missing many concerts and other musical opportunities.

However maybe the biggest was passing on seeing Ozzy and Randy in Knoxville on March 18, 1982. Several friends and myself had planned to make the 2hr trip from Chattanooga but decided not to take off work that evening, not to mention it was a school night. Figured we'd catch them in Atlanta or Nashville another time. He died the next day.
