    1968 Marshall?

Thanks guys. Makes me think the person who listed it doesn't really know what they've got either

    1968 Marshall?

Can anyone identify this amp? It's a local craigslist posting saying it's a 1968 100 watt Marshall. It's listed for $6500 which makes me curious. Rare find or rip off? It says the cab is 4x15...?! Lies?!

Getting an EVH cab for 50 watt 5153

I agree. I can play my Mark Iv through my 2x12 at stupid low volumes for bedroom playing. Obviously it doesn't sound as great as it does when it's loud, but it gets the job done.

Where does the tone come from?

I'm not really saying that we should or shouldn't concern ourselves with either. My initial question was just a very basic question about how an amp actually produces a different tone from another amp. Then I got a bunch of comments about how tone has nothing to do with your gear or is in the...

Where does the tone come from?

These two reds look different depending on the colors around them. Still the same color. Tone is still tone. The tone of the amp is constant. All of the other variables around it are changing. So yes, the perceived tone of the amp mixed with other variables will sound different than the amp...

Where does the tone come from?

This video I just found seems relevant. Mike Soldano talking about the thinking and inspiration behind the hot rod 25 around the 10 minute mark. Pretty awesome little amp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBIcicqIfCM

    Bogner Triple Giant

Yeah it'd be nice to have some gear that actually appreciates for once

    Bogner Triple Giant

T3? Man I keep hearing about these obscure pres. The market seems pretty limited as far as household names and for the lesser known boutiques there just isn't a lot of volume so word doesn't get out. Just found out that TITAN and Peters have preamps as well.

    Bogner Triple Giant

Cool. Seems like it is pretty similar to the fish in terms of voicing

    Bogner Triple Giant

Has anyone played one of these or have any first hand experience with them? I've never seen them mentioned around https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bogner-Triple-G ... 4621ea4deb

Where does the tone come from?

Yeah it looks like I'm going to need to do some serious reading on the subject. Maybe I'll just go play guitar intead

Where does the tone come from?

Cool stuff. Definitely making more sense in a broad kind of way. I can still ask a million basic questions about this stuff though. So a high gain amp is modifying the signal more as it goes through the signal path than a low gain amp? Speaking of gain, is this something created by the tubes...

    When you play...

I definitely feel boxed in when I play/improvise. I'd love to be able to play more organically and just "feel" my way around for a lead.

Where does the tone come from?

So you mentioned tone shaping... This is an additive quality of all of the components between the gain stages? These components are normally resistors and capacitors etc? So I guess at the most basic level tone is a wave function and these components alter this function in one way or another...

Where does the tone come from?

Ha yeah now we are getting to it. This might be one of those areas where I don't know enough to know what to ask... if that makes sense. In a broad strokes kind of way I just don't conceptually understand what makes amps sound different from one another, I guess everything you just mentioned...

Where does the tone come from?

I think we are getting lost in semantics here. I'd call what you're describing style or character.. something sort of abstract that there aren't good words for. I'm talking about an inherent quality of the amp. If I have my mark IV and I turn up my gain nob on the lead channel I have a...

Where does the tone come from?

I assume you're referring to tone being in your hand/how you play? I think theres a difference between style and tone. Playing an open string sounds different between amps. Has nothing to do with your style or how you play.

Where does the tone come from?

Yeah that makes sense. I guess my question is more along the lines of what is it about the preamp circuit that dictates tone? If you have 2 similarly high gain heads like a bogner uberschall and a soldano slo, I would imagine the preamp is largely responsible for the tone of both, yet they...

Where does the tone come from?

So can someone explain to me in not so technical terms where amp tone comes from? From what I understand the preamp is where most of the magic happens and the power amp is sort of a slave to what the preamp gives it. I guess my question is, what is it about the design of the circuit that leads...
