    The BFG Amplification thread.

My arm is in a sling from being twisted. :D I did take a lot of time off to do more with my family and it has been great. I'm doing a few small jobs and am mulling over doing mods again but not at the same pace I was before. I have been talking with a lot of people about it so we'll see...

    Modded Marshal Vs Soldano SLO

Two very different amps. The B+ voltage and filtering in the SLO keep it tight and clear and the 2 cathode followers are known to make it smooth which is part of the SLO's tone. Power tubes are another huge difference. A SLO can get more aggressive but you really need to crank it up. When...

Anyone have a good schematic for gain stage for a jcm800?

It would take too long to explain, but here is how you want to wire in an extra gain stage. Just consider the added stage in the picture your extra triode and have it come in after the first stage. Depending on how hot your first stage is you are going to need to attenuate the new stage down...

NAD: ELAN MK2 PRE BY METALHEAD ELECTRONICS - DINO FF TONES!

Those are cool preamps...I did an amp mod loosely based off of that and it's super fun to play.

Doug Aldrich tone on a budget? Low watt head? Possible?

That would be closer to channel 1 on my amp...the Jose/80's side. Aldrich is on the second channel of mine. Lots of good choices...hope you find what you need. -Brian

Doug Aldrich tone on a budget? Low watt head? Possible?

I do stock the amps and lead time is around 2 weeks typically. Brian

Doug Aldrich tone on a budget? Low watt head? Possible?

I just did one for a customer last month that wanted a cleaner mode on the 1st channel, so I added a toggle for that. It's closer to a "plexi" clean since this head does higher gain stuff. On other mods I do I can get some pretty stellar cleans but that wasn't my main goal with this particular...

Doug Aldrich tone on a budget? Low watt head? Possible?

There are some on my FB page and I can post some later this evening. On the Sunset Strip channel you get a Gain switch which has modes for the clipping type which are on the for the 1st channel. The other channel is based off of the Demon mod I do which is 4 stages. On the front the controls...

Doug Aldrich tone on a budget? Low watt head? Possible?

800.00 is for a brand new amp with new EL84 power tubes, USA made OT and the cosmetics. If you don't want all the extras, I'll do just the mods if you want as well...it's a lot of amp compared to what else is available.

    Edwards guitars

I'm a big fan of Japanese made guitars from Charvel to Edwards. Here is a pic from a few years ago...still have the Goldtop but sold the other two but have replaced them with others.

    Doug Aldrich

The amp that I had was one that was a Golub modded ones and I didn't care for the way it was voiced. It could have been several variables...speakers, guitar/pickups etc but I jsut didn't care for it dry. Doug obviously has his rig setup in a way that it sounds awesome but I felt like there are...

    Doug Aldrich

It's all about the voicing on his amps. I talked to him about them at NAMM for a bit and he was very cool. Getting the tone is all about dialing in the master volume and then setting the gain and the lead tone especially in a larger venue. I've had one of those modded heads here and I...

Should I get my amp re-modded?

I'm not sure where you are located or who did the work but I'm on the West Coast if it's more cost effective then sending it East. Hopefully you can find what you need...I'm sure Jerry will take care of you as well. -Brian

    BFG modded JCA22H

Thanks for the props...I appreciate it. The newest one I'm doing is a nod to the 80's tones I like the most. Hot Rodded Jose Marshall on one channel and second channel that is a bit thicker and even more nasty with no diode clipping and then upgraded caps throughout and a new USA made...

MCP:: thoughts on the Nasty Nasty?

I have a Nasty Nasty set in my Edwards LP and they might be my favorite medium to PAF output pickups. I love how they sound and the neck is one of the best I have. The bridge is open and has enough oomph to get into the area I like with my amp settings. They clean up nicely too. Brian

Looking at the Ceriatone Yeti/Chupa for 'Rodded Marshall!

I have had a few of the Chupa's come in and they are great build quality but I feel they can be a little harsh and can be refined a bit. That's not to say they are bad, I just like them a bit different. Here is my take on the Jose circuit that I put into Marshall's or when I'm asked to tweak...
