Really good tone, really good playing. Not just chops, but the right 'feel' and groove going on - which always makes any amp sound better! I can definitely hear a nice dose of that syrupy smooth compression that just makes you want to play oozing out of every note. This is the kind of guitar sound that does a player favors (this guy didn't need any...). I can understand how a tighter, stiffer, less 'forgiving' guitar tone would hold up better in a full band mix with bass guitar, kick and snare going on. If I was still in the game, I'd find an old JCM800 with a green pedal in front of it for all my rhythm tracks and then fire up a BE100 for all my lead tracks. Great video here!!!

Sounds really good. I also heard a guy playing a 8 string through a BE at a death metal concert couple weeks back. Sounded really good. I always associate Friedman with dark, but it stood out.

I don't think it as much that they don't live up to the Marshall Glory years, they are just a completely different animal. Good demo, nice playing and sounds over the top with gain. REALLY compressed and saturated. Sounds fun to play, but it really is nothing like a JMP or 800. Different amps completely. Neither is better or worse... but they are really not comparable because they are so different, almost opposite in terms of tone and feel.

I think Friedman BE sounds great for death metal! That’s cool af to see

He's using the HBE (diode clipping) and hitting it with a pedal - might explain some of the compression and saturation. The unboosted BE mode is a lot closer to a 2203.

The HBE isn’t diode clipping, the SAT is

Sounds amazing... Truly, it was amazing back in it's day.

Re OP: my appreciation of the topic started with “Friedman was everything Marshall… but vastly superior,” Then I started to read from big collectors who had both and were fans of Friedmans, but contended that while a grand flavor of Marshall that does great things (arguably better than in certain aspects,) it is missing something that Marshalls have at being Marshall.

My assumption (since I haven’t really experienced any widespread bagging on Friedman in favor of Marshall) is this sentiment carried through to the other side of the pendulum with some ppl on the internet (?). Either way, I would guess the sentiment goes along the lines of Comparing a Silver Jubilee to a 2203, or a Soldano/Bray/etc to a 1959/2203… the “improvements“ are touted, despised or appreciated equally but differently.

Had 2 BEs, cool amps. 1 was dark even with presence/treb maxed. The other was an earlier hand wired BE that had a mod to make it more open/raw. That was the one Friedman for me. Very cool amp.
Friedmans, modded Marshall’s all have everything under the hood…gain, loop, clean channel etc.
But there’s something about a vintage raw Marshall + a boost that’s just better; for my ears anyway.

I don't disagree, though how many play their JMP or 800 without a boost? An sd2 or similar adds compression and saturation. The BE is just that in a single box IMO.
Yeah it has that vibe. When I actually get to play for fun I don't boost - AC/DC and early Def Lepp tones are my thing. In this realm there feels like there's more of a difference between modern Marshall-esque amps and the originals.

Looks like that BE100 is a 2014 model(same as mine) with some mods....smokin' amp....it's not dark, I keep the treble/presence around 6 each it cuts great...especially after the NFB mod. I stopped looking after I got this amp, sold a Splawn and a PT100 after I got it. If you can't find those tones in this amp, it's you not the amp....

Great playing by Uncle Ben in the YouTube video playing through the Friedman BE-100. That amp sounded quite good, the tone got my attention, and I didn't have to hear somebody play a bad version of blues/SRV/Robben Ford or any favorite guitar player of the week from TGP. It also had nothing to do with a Dumble amp either. It's more of a hotrodded Marshall amp type of vibe with some mods that's built in that you can tweak to make it sound good. I was fortunate to try out a Friedman BE-100 at the local Guitar Center a couple of years ago for a short time and was impressed by its sound.

I definitely need that open and raw sound ! That’s why the JVM410 wasn’t as successful I think . Marshall’s do that but took it away for JVM

Sounds great, wonder how much better it would sound mic'd! Bet it sounds even better in the room, as good as it sounds here. Damn Suhr reactive load with a stock ir
