I think we are seeing an inevitable and natural paradigm shift in techniques and skills like we did with uli jon roth/michael schemker in 1973, EVH in 1978 and then with yngwie in 1984 [just as EVH started resting on his laurels]then the onslaught of the mike varney shrapnel stable was unleashed.
This is not to say that super high tech guitar was limited to these schools and genres only.
There were/are other constants and outstanding technique driven players in jazz and in the outer fringes like holdsworth,eric johnson,steve morse.shawn lane and dimeola while the shrapnel genre exploded.
Seeing these young ladies amass this super high level of technique and accuracy as well as related music theory knowledge at such a young age leads me to believe that when they hit their teens something HUGE will happen as it did with the aft mentioned giants.
There will be a breakthrough with new techniques and the song writing and "soul" content will flourish and it will be a lot more than just insane display of super high tech guitar playing.
The impetuous for this thread started with me listening to this incredible album,which for a "shredder" album is pretty 'soulful' and dynamic imo.
When the album finished the first video I posted popped up on youtube.
Coincidentally I watched the 2 videos below earlier in the night and was really underwhelmed and slightly bored/disappointed with the overall playing which is coming from the "old school".
all music is great if it moves you and ymmv,i'm just kinda shell shocked that a 10/11/17 year olds can be so fucking insanely shredded up like that !
Hard to tell if they will eventually lose interest and keep progressing but good for them for getting as far as they do.
