11s... And there is no way back.

ive been on 11-52's on a 25.5" scale full floating for about 6 months now, and im going to go down to 10-52. I can play 11-52's but it is not as free flowing as 10's. I also prefer not having my strings right on the frets, so 11's up off of the fretboard is getting aggravating to say the least. Looking forward to having time to re-setup my guitars for the switch :)

Back when I was gigging every weekend I used 12-53 on my Jackson Soloists in standard tuning. Down to 11-50 now.

I'm on a 10-52 EB kick lately (Skinny Top Heavy Bottom).

These are my favorites, although I like EB 11-54s for anything dropped below C.

I'm usually either standard, half step down, or drop D with this guitar (schecter hellraiser C-1).

I still use wimpy 9's on my Jem just because it feels right on that guitar.

We just recently started playing in Eb. So I top wrapped some 11s on my Les Paul. Feels like 10s in E.

I'm a fan of 11's for all my axes, albeit I've got 10's on my Suhr and Hamer. The rest are 11's; the tone and feel is killer with beefier wire IMHO. And so what, they're a bitch to bend, at least I'm strengthening my fingers for when I become an old fart - then I can move back down to 10's, and then 9's before I kick the bucket

I was up to 13-56 standard tuning on my Suhr Moderns. Doing 5 sets a night, 3-4 nights a week. I'm back down to 10-46 on my Luxxtone and Tyler. Really I can adjust to either. For rhythms the heavier gauge is cool, but I can't help thinking that no major artist uses 13s, or even 12s. So I might be hurting my arm long term, so I dropped down. Just precautionary really.

Stevie Ray Vaughn ;)

damn, too late

Not even slinky for B tuning...skinny bottom heavy top for everything else. Anything smaller I break constantly. 1.5 mm picks don't like dental floss.

glpg80, your avatar made me forget what the thread was all about.

I dont know... The Reverend Billy J. gets some pretty good tones playing rubber bands...

Have ya thought of those cables the Navy uses for low frequency transmission?

soak them in seaweed and they last longer.

You guys are so funny. So what if somebody wants to use larger gauge strings? Or lighter? Nobody was saying larger strings make you cool. Anyone who plays a lot of acoustic will normally gravitate toward larger gauges. I don't think they make larger gauges because nobody likes them. :gethim:

I do agree though - 8's have the pick-attack chirp going on that only 8's can deliver, and thicker gauges have the attack and fullness with a whole different ballgame of feel and tone.

each are great. it's all subjective.
