;)

Im calling a truce before Brad comes to play   :cheers2:

I've got "up" to 0.011"s now. I was on 0.013"-0.058" gauge strings in Standard E tuning. They sounded solid but I had enough of them feeling like ropes. 11's are a lot thinner but still have some guts to them.

No way could I play on 0.009"s though- that'd be like mouse whiskers.

I've been 11s in Eb on both my Pauls for years. Love the feel and tone.

13s, or even 12s. So I might be hurting my arm long term, so I dropped down. Just precautionary really.

I tried one of your Moderns with 13s back in the OC Tone Merchant days...literally uplayable for me

I have hand issues, so I stick with my girly 9s :D[/quote]

You aint alone Josh, Hand issues or not( and Ive had them for awhile now) Im a 9's guy and always will be. A friend had a strat in EB with 13's and it was ridiculous, no way , no how could I play that if my life depended on it. The thing is, I actually have pretty strong hands but I just cant play on heavy strings..

Ive heard the arguments loads of times but there are so many out there using really light strings that have great tone; YJM,Brian May,Billy Gibbons that I dont feel that I need to use anything beyond what works for me..

True words there. It's almost like using heavy gauge in some minds is akin to benching 350lbs.. same with 8/9/10 string guitars ( I have an 8)

11-60
13-72

;)

By the way, am I the only one who can't stand when people only say "10's" or "9's" or whatever? Very rarely do sets have the same gauges all across the board (hah!), and a set of 9's for one dude could be pretty different from the set of 9's another dude is using.

I could say I use 11's, and no one would realize that I use 11, 17, 22p, 36, 50, 60 in drop C and B, and that my 13 set goes from 13 to 18, 24p, 38, 54, 72 for anything lower.

i was wondering how long this thread would last before this argument came into play, it never fails

I roll 12-56 on my LP in standard/drop d. 13-68 on my baritone in Bb. I tried 10-46 recently, absolutely terrible.

For me, it's part of good tone. Adds some warmth to my weird mids haha

I doubt those heavy gauges intonate well. I guess it doesn't really matter though since most are playing 2-string chords on the first 3 frets

Im going to start calling you AMAQ

I changed to 11 gauge on my PRS and it made a huge difference. Mostly to how it plays. And I have some long sessions with that guitar now.

Yesterday I got the LP bug when I saw that 54 video, so cleaned up and restringed my LP (10's). MAN did it feel wrong. So light and flimsy.

Went back to the PRS and all was normal again. Those minor 3rd bends on the top e around 7/9 fret do require a bit of commitment though.

So... 11s it is from now on. Aaahh, it's a better tone anyway!

Yeah, you got to man up and dig in on those 11's.

I don't really have a say in the matter
