Sounds amazing Mike! But, the "one wire" mod is really a bunch of value changes, along with that one wire!

Yeah, it was just a thought. :)

Thanks Andy, you should hear this thing when you turn it up and get the power tubes cooking. :inlove:

Very tempting, but I want to keep this Plexi a Plexi, and try using pedals if I want more gain.

I will replace the 560pf with a 470 and put back the 33k and see how that sounds. Parts on order from Valvestorm, yet again!

Yeah i can totally understand that.

I think a 470pF/33k tone stack is a good choice.

Just a little update at my end, I dropped the 10k cathode resistor down to 4.7k. Don't like it as much at low volume but it sounds pretty good to my ears when the master gets cookin. (as do most amps or higher gain preamps)

Also moved the negative feedback tap from 8 ohm to the speaker jack and I quite like it. It is more subtle than I thought and to my ears, the "browning" of the tone is due to the fact that it smooths some of the highs and adds a bit of fullness. You guys notice this as well or is it my imagination?

I'm going to try a few bypass caps now to see what I like. I think I am also going to add a tonestack lift switch for a bit more plexi on 10 oomph alla Bogner Helios. (also has this feature from what I understand of the explanation of the amp)

I've left a 500pf bright cap in to date. I like the bit of extra crunch you get from not removing it but we'll see if it is too much once the bypass caps come in to play on V1 and V2.

It sounds like you're making progress, that's awesome.

A lot of people I've talked to really like that trick with the negative feedback tap on the speaker jack, the way you described it is very accurate.
It's not your imagination.

Another gain factor is the tonestack lift, I really liked this mod in my 2204.

Great tones Michael, sounds great in all the vids!

Jim

Thank you Jim, I really appreciate ya taking the time to check out all the videos.

Awesome tone Mike!! I think this Super Bass/SLP has surpassed the Major as far as early VH brown tones!!

Thank you Andy.

It's got a lot more gain than the Major, which makes it better for this kinda of tone.

But over all the Major sounds better, it just has this sweetness to it that's hard to beat.

Agreed on the Major. Sounds bigger, smoother, fuller. I think the major has the better brown tone of the two! They both sound great though.

I changed my tone stack to 33k/470pf, and it's perfect now! Great gain, not too bright, nice - and with the Virtual Variac (running at 395 v), decently brown!

I'll have to make a clip this weekend!

If I had to choose between the two, it's the Major all the way.

It's a big heavy bastard but I love it. ;)
