Are you running a attenuator with your 68? or are you boosting it with a pedal? MV?
 
Put in a negative feedback circuit (aka resonance) mod. It is simple to do and it will thicken up the sound and give you all the low end that you will need. Good luck on the mod, modded Marshall's are the best.
 
THAT sounds killer..nice playing too. What speakers are you using?
 
It is hard to get a signature sound if you use the same stuff as everyone else. Don't be afraid to step way outside the box. Most guitarists tend to be very conservative and that can be limiting.

Just use your ears and go with what sounds good to you.
 
Clapton, Blackmore, Johnson, Poland, Malmsteen, SRV, EVH all use the same gear as everybody else but sound like themselves.
Focus on phrasing and pick attack. Dynamics. That will be what sets you apart.

I think he just doesn't want to take the '68 plexi out and wants the jmp to sound and feel more like it. If I read into that correctly. I understand, if I could get my cheaper less collective amp to sound and feel 90% of the 68 plex , I would prefer taking it instead. I have seen some pedals that will push it closer to that raw sonic tone. But I am no help on this one ......either :lol: :LOL:

love the tone and loved the playing...sounded like a bit of vintage lynch and some vai in there... great.

You may be right but, in my opinion, there's no point in owning the '68 if you don't take it out and gig the snot out of it. :yes:

So last Thursday I took '76 JMP 100w out to rehearsal to try it and my band mates liked it but I wasn't totally happy with it.

Friday night I got it home, opened her back up and played around with the circuit. I changed the slope resistor to a 47K and bypassed the V2a cathode resistor (820r) with a .022uF cap looking to thicken up the sound more.

I'm hoping the amp will kick ass with the new changes at next weeks band rehearsal. :)

How hot are your pickups , active or passive ?
That's a lot of gain out of a amp that only has a MV mod.
But I like it a lot , and I would love to have that tone along side my Soldano amp.
 
Sounds great. Not trying to be a dick but that is far from "your" signature sound. EVH came up with the Brown Sound 35 years ago!
