I think in simple words.....power section amplifies voltage change in input, Marshall Major section is very linear so close to 1:1 swing input to output (appears at plate voltage) means a very small voltage change at input is big on the output. Since a boost amplifies the input signal and therefore makes worse swing on voltage...and BZZZT!

ON the second point, I agree....this is some of the best tone I've ever heard...surely helps that the playing is top notch too! \m/

Yeah, I think the Nuno is the best setup with this Major as well, it's my go-to most of the time. :)
