So I picked up a California era Soldano SLO 100 within the first 1000 made... My first SLO was earlier that this one and I always held onto the fact it was the best one imho.. I've owned some in the 2004 2006 years and they never lasted long because they were not as good as the old one I owned... I owned a couple or a few in the mid to late 96, 97, 99 these ones weren't to bad but still missing a little mojo. I'm thinking possibly the older components that Mike used might have something to do with it. I always put in KT66's and nos Chinese 12AX7's. The one I just got is as good as it's going to get and closest to 1st one I owned, I very happy with the amp it sounds great... I have owned everything under the sun pretty much and I have to say the SLO is my amp. They seem to be getting harder to find used used as they have been going for 30 years now, maybe people are holding onto them for the collector/vintage factor..

Nice score. I had an '89 and a couple from '92 that were both extra magical.

I got a Rackmount SLO from Rick Steier of Warrant for 900.00 in 1998. Also an x88 preamp from a music studio in VanNuys for 400.00!! the good old days.

Wow. I also remember plexis in good condition going for 500, early 90s when everyone wanted rack stuff. Damn shame I wasn't much of a gear nut then.

Yes the good old days there were some amazing deals only if we would have known

Awesome! I've got an early one as well, and it has some major mojo going on.

1992 was good SLO production year. Great vintage.

I had many SLO's since around 1990. One I miss most was a purple SLO factory loaded w/ KT-66's

My first SLO was an '88 that was beat to hell from touring with Faster Pussycat. I later picked up a minty '97 to go with it. After putting fresh/identical tubes in both, I could not tell a difference in sound. I currently have an '03 and a '13 and the same thing: fresh pre's, fresh 5881's, and I can't hear a difference. I must deaf.

Your not deaf. I have found them to be very consistent myself. I think maybe like anything that has wear and tear, they may "soften" a little with use? I cant say I have ever heard 2 SLO's that were vastly different by any stretch and maybe my fondness for the older amps is just more like a placebo effect for lack of better terms. Tough to say for sure, but easy to say that any and all SLO's are incredible in my opinion!

I've owned a couple of SLOs -- one from 1992 and the other from early 2000s. Also borrowed my buddy's SLO a few times (made in 2005). They all sounded the same. Very consistent from amp to amp.

Right on. Mine was purple, too. Brent beat the living shit out of it. I doubt Toru would remember me.
