Rig Talk 20th Anniversary Pedal ???

I honestly don't remember the date Rig-Talk started! LOL

Please don't use "boomer" in the name. Please... I hate that.
Lmao- sorry man.. I’m 57 in a few months & I just love when young guns run their internet muscles. I wear boomer with pride since most assume I’m a boomer (gueee I’m a boomer x) . Fk- we got to live all the cool 80’s shit
Fk em! Embrace it & then make them look bad

Dual Boss DM-2 circuits ? would be an expensive pedal though BBD chips arent cheap these days
I guess it’s the same as just buying two delay pedals. The benefit is only using one power supply if that’s even possible?

Okay, dumb idea. Nevermind lol

I also just bought the Boss 101 analog delay pedal that covers the need.

I don't hate the idea of a dual BBD Delay ..... I could even lay out the PCB to incorporate a loop between the two ...
I don't hate that idea either. I haven't looked that much but it seems like most of the dual delays I looked at use digital. I didn't want to risk the $ for Halo core for trying that doubling effect I had mentioned cause it had digital so I looked for analog solutions that seemed to provide.

Seems like having mix controls on each side might be helpful to preserve a pick attack...

TLDR even a chump like me might buy one someday down the line....gotta get some redundancy for that effect I like since it's gigging tool. Kinda like owning more than one pair of Carlos™️ shoes.

I like some of the ideas, but if the pedal is too specified it's only going to appeal to a small handful. My suggestion for an anniversary pedal would be something that would appeal to the mass. I think a parametric EQ or the like would hit that spot. I'd think most everyone could find a use for an EQ over a specific type of overdrive or effect pedal.

Yeah, @MadAsAHatter has a point. An EQ with a lot of push would be sweet.
once we have maybe three solid ideas .... we can do the vote thing

A perfect circuit for this would be a old Boss Spectrum SP-1 ...... it's one of the rarest Boss pedals out there ... released in 77 .... discontinued in 81

and now they go for over 500 sometimes .... it's a simple parametric EQ with boost .... I would probably mod in a volume knob ...

not a lot of parts ... so I could keep the cost relatively low

I had to look that one up. A modified SP-1 would be cool. Another potential mod aside from a volume knob could be to extend the frequency range a little. Like 250Hz to 6kHz instead of the original 500-5k.

It should be a gain / OD / Dist of some kind. then again, I'm not a a pedal user, I'm a MFX user, currently a Fractal VP4. I have a few pedals, but the only pedals I use regularly are EQ.

In keeping with the historical metal character of this place; it should reference leather and spandex. :D

One thought - a dual overdrrive - one is a Marshall in a box, the other is a Mesa in a box.

Another thought - A gain-staaging OD with 3+ independent gain stages, from low-medium gain --> low - medium gain --> high gain.

a three stage OD / Distortion is right in my wheelhouse

My fav guitar plugin (PolyChromeDSP McRocklin Suite), has 4 level gain-staging, from left to right. I use it all the time.

so a 3 level od/dist gain staging pedal; leather, spandex, lace? with a nuclear mode switch to increase the overall gain - even if it's barely usable, it makes a good RT statement IMO. None more Metal pedal. back to our RT roots / foundation

So basically this, but in a single housing?

yes, but more usable - this is a good example of the nuclear mode I mentioned

I have that 4 level gain staging in McRocklin suite plugin; each stage is voiced differently, and the gain increases from left to right; and you can use them in any combination, you just can't change the order. if there was a pedal that did this gain staging, I'd be tempted.

edit:

the pic above is what I use for my Hair Rhythm 2 patch; it uses the lowest gain stage to boost the highest gain stage, and I can add/remove the others via MIDI. Here's the gain staging page from my patch for context. The core tone is from the amp at the top of the page. There are four other pages to the patch.

I can put whatever circuits you want in it .... something super clean for the first stage .... med gain for the second ... and then probably a Chiron / Klon circuit to end it .... because most OD's sound glorious stacked in front of the Klon

so many options for OD and Dist, hard to know how they'd work well together or not. Maybe a Zendrive? Boss SD-1? BD-2? DS-1? TS9? Timmy? KOT? Morning Glory? Transparent vs coloring?

Makes my head spin with option overload.

I thought the order should go from lowest to highest gain when gain staging...ending on a Klon doesn't follow this?

Klon has plenty of gain ...... and gets you up to distortion pedal levels if you have something like a Sd-1 / 808 in front of it ....

if you have something with to much gain on the end it will sound muddy and horrible with them all on .... so IMO it's best to have two decent med drives on the second two selections ...

another great combo would be a double Klon / Chiron have the first with a lot less gain .... like a Archer Clean Boost

@Techdeth has been wanting one of those Mesa EQ's. Just thought I'd mention it for him since he's probably tied up trimming his toenails rn.
