For no other reason than to brag...I suppose....And, to share,... some here may get a kick out of this sort-of antiquity.
My pop's 1959 -60 Stratocaster. (I've been told its a 59, but I've not personally seen the markings under the neck that would confirm that)

Dad paid $75 for it in the early mid sixties at a small music store in Va. He said the body finish was beat all to hell, so he rattle-canned it with a nice red color. Many, many years later, he had a guy try to return it to its original color finish, which is what you see here. The electronics, particularly the switch, and tone pots are a bit sketchy, but the pups work. It's traveled the country, been played on national tv (in the 80's), and stood in with a guitar player from an overseas band that was in the States "touring". Their equipment was apparently lost-in-transit, so they borrowed some gear from my pop's band, which were the opening act. It's funny...dad told me he remembers the guitar player that borrowed it had the longest, nastiest fingernails, and dad didn't want him "scratching the board".  He borrowed it anyway, and dad is convinced the dude scratched his board.

Anyway, I took a quickie photo last night, then had to run out, but wanted to share with you fellows.

ETA: This link will take you to some more photos on PB. I'm not a photographer, and I don't really own a camera other than my mobile phone...these aren't too terrible. https://s800.photobucket.com/user/the_cr ... ster/story

Didn't strats that old only have a 3 way and not a 5 way ? Knobs and bridge saddles don't look original either...

I did...and ? He says electronically they're not perfect, he didn't say they weren't original (the switch and tone pots), and he didn't address the knobs or the saddles in the OP...just sayin'...still a damn fine guitar

The following I know aren't original: Pick guard, Middle pup, nut, tuners, plate at neck, and (pretty sure knobs arent'). I believe the saddles are original...that is what i've been told, but honestly i don't know. And yes, i believe it is a three way.

Doesn't matter, it's still worth a fortune. Cool guitar

Dude, you can't drop a story like this with one single crappy picture. Crack out a camera and take like 20 hi-def pics for us.

Saddles look original to me - very tarnished, but original looking. Cool story and guitar!

  sorry man   when one is as broke as I am...you stay busy A LOT. I'll try to take some pictures over the weekend.

Glad you guys dig it!

It's the first guitar I ever played. My dad taught me a GCD chord progression in the first fret. Played till my fingers were raw. I took lessons when I was about 11-12, and used it, with no amp (dad knew what he was doing  ). I remember the teenage kid that was teaching me used to make fun of it...made me kind of embarrassed actually. Hell what did I know, I was a kid, and he was a power chord stud.

Anyway,,,,the guitar still plays really well.

Some more photos. https://s800.photobucket.com/user/the_cr ... ster/story

It wasn't my guitar, and still isn't, so obviously it wasn't my call...but a couple things that are a sacrilege IMO...the tuners aren't vintage style, those black knobs, and the black nut. Still a beautiful guitar though.

Looks like a single cut of wood to my eyes, which was pretty common then. As someone asked it's really light, about 5-5.5 #'s.

Looks really nice. Thx for sharing.

What a great guitar, thanks for the pics. Hopefully you end up with it someday. My kids will get mine... hopefully you'll get your dad's.
