I have it figured out and kinda dialed in here at the house. Taking it to the gig tonight so hopefully it goes well.
When preference dictates, as it100% does with gear...I had a stock 77 JMP 2204 and a stock 79 JMP 2204 and neither did a thing for me.Scorpions! When does a JMP ever NOT sound good?
Never! Just for the guys with weak, wimpy ears that are scared of bright or cutting sounds (oh no it hurts my whittle ears). They can have their underwater phone clips drenched in delayScorpions! When does a JMP ever NOT sound good?
Could it be possible both those JMP’s just happened to be rare clunkers? Or possibly, they did sound good but that type of tone just isn’t your thing? When preference dictates, as it100% does with gear...I had a stock 77 JMP 2204 and a stock 79 JMP 2204 and neither did a thing for me.
Well, an amp can have a bright sound that is still very rich and natural with lots of pleasing overtones. To me that describes the best Marshalls and doesn’t hurt my ears. Some other amps can have the most grating, unmusical and jagged sounding midrange, even if they’re dialed in dark, and that’s where ear bleeding discomfort settles in to me. A mid 80’s (IIRC) Laney AOR head comes to mind to describe an amp like that. Just sounded plain UGLY in the harshest sense. Very uncomfortable to listen to even at low volume.Never! Yes this is what I meant. It’s sorta like eating a fruit that is sour, but there’s still a complex, great flavor there too. I often like the tonal equivalent of that, unlike a lemon that doesn’t have much else going on besides just being sour. Never tried an AOR in person, but the the clips I’ve heard sound like what you’re describing. To me those good old Marshall’s have what I want to hear in the midrange. No other amps I’ve tried yet quite has it the same way. I feel sorry for the guys that hear bright yet very toneful amps, but they only hear the bright part and then shut off their ears. They’re missing out big time imoWell, an amp can have a bright sound that is still very rich and natural with lots of pleasing overtones. Thanks man.Sounds good to me. You nailed that Scorps tone IMO.

Could have been the amps, but one had all new caps and had just been gone through the other was all original caps etc. No I totally like those tones.Could it be possible both those JMP’s just happened to be rare clunkers? Or possibly, they did sound good but that type of tone just isn’t your thing?

Yes on the 65’s. This is my favorite cabinet by far.Nice tones. You're using Celestion G12-65s?
I can never get that certain tone they got in the late 70s/early 80s. Were they using greenbacks?
Thank youGreat tone! Sounds killer.
