My buddy brought over his 2013 Gibson Les Paul Gold top. He had got some Suhr Aldrich pickups from me and they weren't sounding right, very weak.
After some testing, I found the stock pickups were wired wrong. They put the coils out of phase when in standard series mode. Both the bridge and the neck had 2 wires swapped. Then the coil split used a 0.01uF cap to ground instead of directly shorting the one coil. The cap game the coil split a nasal sound.
So he has had this guitar for 13 years and its never been right, but its sounding great now. The Aldrich pickups split really well. The other two pull pots are a phase and the other takes the tone out of the circuit.
