2025 high school graduation

You can call it conjecture if you want Dan. After all, you’re in New England not the rural Midwest. Where I am. And where 84Superchamp is.
And where he is, 1/3 of the class was Hispanic. Which is a lot more than around here. So again, location doesn’t matter.

Unless you are going back to your earlier BS about them probably being illegals or whatever, and implying most of that region is equally as bullheaded, then that would be the conjecture I was talking about.

I wouldn’t be as brash to say that anyone who isn’t bilingual is anti-learning. My Spanish is piss poor now compared to what it was probably 10 years ago when I was speaking it regularly.
But I do see it is part of a larger trend of people valuing information over knowledge. Forming opinions based on a headline without reading the article so to speak.

I mean the OP said himself that 1/3 of the graduating class was Hispanic. Which A) makes me question that 90% of the audience was English speaking, and B) makes me think that in a “small town” graduating class, 1/3 Hispanic isn’t far from 1/2 Hispanic, so 5 minutes of a multi hour ceremony doesn’t seem outlandish when put in perspective.
Maybe less of the class, 1/3 may have been overly generous but there seemed to be lots.
In conducting life around here, encounters with mexicans is rare...either low profile or not many of them. My point was the vast majority of the audience didn’t speak the language, in spite of having to listen to it on almost every automated phone answering system and this just went a step further, forced to listen to it once again at a rare celebration...once in a lifetime for many.
Speaking a foreign language around people who don't understand it foments distrust.
Not to mention rude.

Ok Dan. Be obtuse if you want. Let me put it another way. In blue states/sanctuary cities/states, it may not seem outlandish. The concerted effort by democrats to ship millions of undocumented hispanics,( some may have been given TPS) to rural, red cities is real. It's not conjecture. And scenes like that graduation aren't doing anything to win those rural Americans over to their cause. Trump was elected handily because most normal Americans think it's time for the hispanic folks to go back home.

The overwhelming majority of immigrants in this country are here legally, and it’s not even close.
Don’t talk to me about being obtuse lol

I'm probably overreacting but i just felt like some of the celebration was stolen from us and given to a select few.
It was a slap in the face of every American there. Thanks for the free education. Allow me to show my appreciation by babbling for 20 minutes in the language of the country that didn’t pay for any of it. Should have Bluetooth some Mariachi to the PA system while calling ICE.

Well, Pew estimates a minimum of 11.7 million illegals. That was 2022. They estimate the number is significantly higher now.

25% of the foreign born population are not here legally.

So you are saying 25% and 75% are close?

And yet so much of the “developed” world wants to live in the US. So much so that they break our laws to do so.

To take Floyd’s numbers, you really think 11 million people in our country illegally is even a drop in the compared to the population of the developed world?

the easy road of facts?

Irrelevant facts.

I said the amount of immigrants in this country are largely here legally. And the response was a fact that was specifically NOT about the total amount of immigrants in the country.

Cherry picking facts that aren’t pertinent to the discussion is child’s play
