20W V2 Caldera - demo by Reza

The guy sure can play though

Like most demo vids you kind of have to take the whole thing into perspective. I didn't know about the single SM57 straight on thing but that makes sense. So does too much preamp gain, hot pickups, no post EQ etc etc.

That being said, this amp sounds like it would be a beast in a small package. Can't speak to the clipping and such but it def has a nice staccato and percussive feel that I like.

I too have one of these guys here for demo and it kills. Mine is a diffe build though. Mine is 10 watts, EL43 based and has an updated tonestack.

So...1 - EL34?

Nope. It has 2x EL34’s

I honestly don't get what's so attrocious about his demo, lol. Maybe you aren't SM57 kinda guys.

It's clearly not his videos they have an issue with.............

I don't mean to sound rude but that sounds very solid state and cold. That is not a terrible thing, I have a Tech 21 TM10 that sounds almost similar and tracks well. Around 5:46 there is a ton of clipping...is that just his tone he was messing up or is that from sheer volume from misuse of gain? I just hear a ton of compression. I have heard your amps before and they sounded great. This was not one of them.
I'm not a fan of anything that Reza records. He's a good player and good taste in gear, but cant stand any of his recordings, so I am sure he is not doing the amp any justice
Totally agree, typically his clips seems dark and pretty compressed

I have no issues with any of his vids or him. I purchased an amp and remembered him having a demo of the amp. I went back and watched/listened several times over and not once came anywhere near the tones I was hearing in his vids. He knows gear so I want to make it clear I am not bashing. However a micd mixed demo is not what inspires me to buy amps. Lesson learned! If so I'd be looking at a mixer and a pa recording instead of plugging in and hearing the amp in front or behind me as that's how my ears are going to spend time with it. Pro tools and micd cabs are definitely necessary, to buy an amp I dont plug in and mic it and put on headphones.
Clarify. Not saying I do not like recorded clips. Some really cool shit posted on here especially! When considering purchasing I need raw and micd.ymmv

What else would it be? I don't know him outside of listen to his videos and thinking that there is something about the way he is recording that takes away any bit of character away from the amp being demo'd. I would bet if he did a recording at the same time with an iPhone, I'd like it better

Jeesh..... Tough crowd
I thought it sounded great. Does not seem to roll off very well, but who cares? I dont think thats what V2 had in mind for this amp. My Langners are similar in that they dont roll off well, but they were designed to be full tilt ass kickers, and they are also compressed but in a good way. Thats kinda what I hear in this amp. Yes, its compressed, but its tight and got great definition.
Im pretty sure the last thing V2 wanted was to start a bunch of whining about the guy playing the amp, hell Reza can outplay half the people on this forum, is an actual pro gigging musician with at least 2 albums to his credit, and while I have no doubt he could have done a much more elaborate setup to record the amp with, the guys who don't like him would have questioned how much of what they were hearing was the signal chain     He probably chose a simple 57 setup because its familiar to everyone..
Relax people....
Very few clips we hear are exactly what was heard in the room
Carry on...

Clip sounded OK.
There's certainly enough there to decide whether the amp is something you would want to check out in person.
Nobody makes a decision on an amp purchase based on 1 YouTube clip, right?

I think it's the isolated SM57 that is bugging some of the peeps here. Those mic's go in a mix like peanut butter and jam, but can sound a little compressed and just kinda meh when solo'd.
Only thing I found a little odd was that he kept the gain dime'd for the whole deal.
I'm not sure doing that presented the amp in the best possible light, but I haven't played one in person so what the hell do I know....

I'd bet some of you would choose some horseshit youtube video over how Reza records these. I at least hear some definition in his vids, where most others all the amps sound like all the other amps on the net. Like the 6505 vs SLO or Mark IIC+ vs Mark III vs Mark IV...they all sound identical which is total BS if you ever actually PLAY one of these amps.

I like that people assume there must be a personal vendetta to be dissatisfied with how an amp is recorded.

I don't know the guy. I think he has some sweet gear, and certainly plays better than most forum heroes. It could simply be a matter of him dialing in tones for a different use than I, or some of the others are looking for out of a product.

The BE100 one is not bad! The sound is a bit too punk-rocky for me, personally, but it sounds fine.

To suggest that everyone has a personal issue with the guy is foolish.

Everytime he mics up an amp, it has a horrendous sound to it.
You can hear it on just about every demo he has.
I'm sure the amp sounds fine, but I definitely wouldn't go buy any amp based on a demo he does.
Really?? IMO these clips sound phenomenal

Those all sound like a guitar plugged straight into a computer with some cheap digital plugin. Hell, kinda sounds like a guitar plugged into a distortion pedal into the AUX input of a stereo. There is zero body to the sound. Just fizz. And it's not some vendetta against the dude in the video. Don't know him. I absolutely hate ALL amp demos that sound like this. Can't tell any of them apart. They all sound the same. Must be the mic/technique. I'd much prefer just a camera mic. Hell, an iPhone would sound better to me. I want to hear how the amp sounds in the room, not how it sounds if I press my ear up directly on the speaker cone.

Bingo. My Langner is the same too. And again,I think this demo of this amp sound good to me. But I am much easier to satisfy than most.

Hahahah what?? Digital plugin? Do me a favor and find me a digital plugin that sounds as fat and real as this one. Seriously I don't want to offend you but there is a reason this guy has so many subscribers...if u r fine with iPhone clips, well what can I say... Even a SS cheap amp can sound good when recorded using an iPhone in a room.

Also, for what it's worth, if Friedman has hired him for years to make and record their videos, he obviously knows what he is doing...

Oh and Celestion and bogner as well...

Some of those sound good. The OP clip, IMO didn't. But I am sure if Reza is looking for someone to start a Fan Club Defense Force for him, you will be first in line.
