2x12 or 4x12? with the BE100

Playing Classic Rock in a weekend warrior bar band. I'd been eyeing using 4x12's to go with the BE100 - spending all the bank roll on the head so I've got to go used on the cab for now.

I'd planned on a used Mesa Recto cab and when funds recovered putting Green Backs in the top to emulate the BE 4x12 cab. A deal popped up on a used 2x12 BE Cab so I'm giving it a look. I'm a bit surprised they don't have WHEELS!? I'm "old" LOL!!! I don't mind "Lift, set, Roll" but "Lift, Tote, Set" is a bitch! I can use a furniture dolly to mitigate that issue. :D

I searched "2x12" and found a fair number of comments of guys going to a 2x12 because they were tired of moving the 4x12 and stage size issues. As far as stage size the 2x12 has the same foot print so I guess I don't see the "savings"?

Anybody "A/B" the 2x12 vs. the 4x12 BE cabs? Will you miss anything in a LIVE bar band context with the 2x12 vs. the 4x12? Not really worried about moving air, I'll use the direct out to the PA and we're only talking bars with 100"ish" folks.

Thoughts? :D

Congratulations on the new amp Rango!!! I think a 2x12 should be plenty loud and easier to lug around.

Oh I'm sure it will be plenty loud! LOL!!! When I got to play a BE the thing that impressed me MOST was how well the Master Volume worked! Frankly on my Mesa 5:25 even on 10 watts it doesn't work as well and I feel the need to re-EQ the amp as the volume comes up. That wasn't the case with the BE. ;)

I'm only asking about the 4x12 since Dave went to the trouble of spec'ing Greenback's on top of V30's there must be a reason... Just trying to understand the trade-off's from a TONE perspective. ;)

I wanted both, I have

2- Friedman 4x12's, one with scumback M75/H75 mix, and one with V30/GB mix

2- Friedman 2x12's both with V30/GB mix

you'll be happy with either one, or buy one now, and the other later.

Also Sweetwater has free shipping. I paid enough in shipping with all my Friedman purchases to almost pay for a Friedman 2x12. So take advantage free shipping from Sweetwater, or negotiate with other vendors for free shipping

Thanks.
You swapped in a GB in your 2x12's? Spec's show 2 V30's stock...

I wonder why Dave didn't go one V30 and one GB on the 2x12?

yes... I ordered a Friedman 2x12 with 2 GB's, then swapped one speaker with my V30 2x12.

I love the 2x12 with two V30s but am interested in hearing different speakers (or a mix) with the SB50. Is it a fairly easy DIY swap with the Friedman cabs? Anybody have good recordings highlighting the differences between speaker types esp with a BE or SB?

I'd love to pick up a 4x12 just to have as well but I'm space constrained. I need a bigger house with a proper man cave!

I'm still debating - I've got the room for a 4x12 Hoping a deal will pop up... ;)
Played with a potential new drummer last night that's a hard hitter. Might be good to go for the big boy with him in the mix. :D
