Those sound really good! My god the difference between the 59 guitar and the 2002! Jeesh! I guess they had better wood in 1959.

The 36th Anniversary is brighter than the original PAF but it's close!
I know right? It's crazy! Not sure if it's better wood or like they said, the aging process

They sound pretty good. Just put a set on order.

I got 2 guitars here with them. They sound different in both guitars, but they sound great! I just ordered another one for my Axis SS.

that reissue sounds like a real fuckin DUD. jesus. i swear my epiphone sounds better!
weird how that happens, and just a real sign of Q&A and build quality NOT being what it should be at Gibson. shame.

The tonal difference isn't only the aging of the woods and parts, the finish has more to do with it than you'd think. Nitrocellulose lets a guitar breath more.

Well, if you want the truth, I ordered two sets.  One is destined for my newly acquired Ibanez FR1620. The other set is yet TBD. We'll see how they work in the Ash body Ibanez first.

he also didn't mention: glue, binding, as mentioned-finish, and old growth wood/newgrowth.

it's wild how good that old fucker sounds though!!

So, the original 59 doesn't have the 36th anni pups installed? I thought Larry believed in his product.

I think he copied the PAF's in his 59 LP and that's how the 36th anniversary came about.

I'm not sure exacty what the difference is between the real 59 LP and the reissue, whether it's aging or quality of materials but the pickup is certainly close enough for me. It's obviously brighter in the brighter-sounding reissue. Still really close to my ears.

I had a 36th that I liked, but a 2nd degree black belt replaced. It was a little more woody and warm. For the price though, the 36th is hard to beat

Historics have a nitro finish

Wow, they should have used a different amp. I'm sure those guitars sound good, but that tone is weak. :(

Historics have a nitro finish

It shrinks as it ages.

I dont see many people clammoring for oil finished Les Pauls. Wouldnt that breath even better.

Yeah, but it wouldn't protect it from bumps and nicks. Gotta trade something for something.

Seriously? People spend BIG BUCKS to have a guitar relic'd. People pay other people money to beat up their guitars. I highly doubt guitarists honestly care about a few bumps and bruises if it means better tone.

Better tone and more M0J0 sounds like a win win. Assuming finish does make any difference when a guitar is amplified. :aww:
