Yes, without a shadow of a doubt that is a complete waste of a 416…
😂
As with many things, the amount of fun this provides outweighs its wastefulness. Plus, rounds are only $10 each, so if you skip a single mocha chai half caff latte espresso almond milk soy extra hot super tall boing boing drink you'll feel much better about yourself anyway :)

😂
I like black coffee, but I get it 😂 A buddy of mine shot a 416 at 2 miles at an ELR range.
They had an open house at an ELR range in Fla and you paid a fee to shoot anything you want 2 times. He shot a 338 LM, a 408 Cheytac, and the 416 Barrett. He sent me vids of the 338 and the 416, the 416 impacts at 2 miles faster than the 338 LM does at 1 mile. The pressures in that chamber must be off the charts. 😂😂

I'm saving some things for retirement. One of them is long range shooting. I have dipped my toe in a teeny tiny bit.

I've never shot any of the rifles mentioned in this thread. Although I would like to some time. I've taken Elk in Wyoming at 425 yards with a BAR ( 30-06). Watched the old man hit a muley the next mountain over ( talk about a bitch) at about 500 yards.

These days I don't kill dumb animals. The closest I come to long range shooting is a .223W I built which I get out every once in awhile to about 300 yards.

Ironically I'm having lots of fun with a pair of really old .22 rifles I inherited after my mom's brother shot himself in the head last year. It's ironic because although my old man had me shooting before I was 10, he didn't start me with a .22 and I've never been into them. I put big ass scopes on them. lol

I hear ya, the only thing I hunt are hogs on our land for pest control. They destroy everything in their path. We have all kinds of wildlife out here but hogs are an invasive species so they must go.
I still shoot a 308 for long distance out to 1200 yds, I decided a long time ago to focus on 308’s and get as proficient as I could with those and I just never had a reason to change. There are better rounds out there to go further out, but no ranges in less than 4 hours that go past 1000-1200 yds.
Plus you can do anything with a 308, it’s a Swiss Army knife

I would kill hogs. For sure.

.308 is a great round. I had a nice, sporterized Enfield I wish I still owned.

I’ve never gotten into the larger cartridges but use 6.5 creedmoor out to 1000-1250 yards

Hit a metal target once (way off center, right at the edge) at that distance on a sunny windless day and I tell everyone I’m basically a regular sharp shooter after that accomplishment 😅😅😅🤣🤣
