IHMO the volume thing is way overblown and gets used a lot as an excuse to sell the head and continue the gear whoring.

Sorry, but that's absolute bollocks. The amp has a very clear design flaw. It is touted as a 3 channel amp, but it can only be used as a 2 channel, which is why so many people sell them.

  Design flaw? You can only use it as a two channel amp??? I use all three channels with no problem so..... yeah I see your "bollocks" and raise you with your opinion being total bullshit.

Yes design flaw. Fact of the matter is, if you cannot hear a volume jump, your amp or your hearing are defective. :gethim:

No my hearing is just fine. See my posts above. I said depending on where you set the gain... there can be a volume jump that is easily handled by an FX unit or if the gain is set right around noon there is no volume jump. And guess what? You can use your volume on your guitar to get back to very clean if there is too much dirt on the clean channel at that setting.

"Two channel amp."  Fucking hilarious.

Bottom line is I have don't hearing problems so thanks for your fucking moronic diagnosis from across the pond :jerkit:

I just know how to use gear.

My hearing is also fine, :gethim: I will state again....At bedroom levels it is noticeable....Difference is heard and acknowledged....
At gig levels it is no different than the slight volume loss you get when turning your guitar volume pot down to clean up.........
Again, I believe it's more of a bedroom players problem than a working musicians problem.......

I apologize if my last post seemed a bit pissy....
Two deaths in the family in a very short time......
Guess I was a little hypersensitive to the "hearing" comment.....
Rock on RT Brothers, gonna get off the net and relax....

No man it didn't read that way at all. Now my response on the other hand. :D

In all seriousness sorry to hear about your loss and prayers your way for you and your family. I lost my brother 8 months ago yesterday. I know that pain.

I'm a happy owner of a 5150 III 50w, but unfortunately I belong to the camp that really isn't impressed with the chan 1/2 volume jump. I also like to go from super clean to pretty high gain so that doesn't help. Otherwise the amp is super awesome bang for buck, is nice and small, and I won't be selling it any time soon.

Thanks Ejecta much appreciated.....
Sorry to hear your sad news, That must have been a tough one to take.....Keep your head up......

It seems the volume jump is being discussed all over the interwebs.....I have searched but haven't found one......Has Fender acknowledged it publicly? Is there any statement from them regarding? Just curious on their take.......

Thanks Billboogie. As you know it's a real kick in the gut. Ben had a huge and caring heart, wickedly funny, and one of the best musicians I've ever known. I won the lottery having him as a brother. I miss him every single day.

The designer of the amp Howard hangs out on The Gear Page and has acknowledged there is a jump when the gain is set in certain positions but said Eddie didn't like the way amp sounded when they addressed the volume jump. Just search the amp section over there.

Sorry for your losses guys. It's a shitty time to go through. Been through it many times myself.

My responses have been very smart ass in nature so I "apologize unreservedly" for that. :D
