I live in Canada if I buy from MF at $799 it will cost me over $200 in shipping, and duty, but I can buy locally for $999 new.

buy the 30 day warranty. Mine broke down while i was recording, real pain. I should mention the matching EVH 2X12 really complete the amp's potential. You might want to think about investing into the cab.

Put on these knobs for the boutique tonez!

I sold the Randal MTS stuff for the entire 8-9 years they made them. I really dug that series, but it wasn't until they put out the GTO The Judge module that I bought into the amps myself. Then they discontinued them a couple of months later. When the first 5150 III 50 watters came in, I have to tell you I wasn't expecting them to be anywhere near as good. But they floored me. I sold my MTS stuff and took home the 5150 III 50 watter. I like the blue channel on the 50 watter better than the blue channel on the 100 watter too. Plus that blue channel cleans up really well with the volume knob. I don't even switch to the clean channel, I just do it old school style and it sounds great.

The 50w is ok if you plan on living on the red and green channels. The massive volume jump and shared eq make it pretty much a 2 ch. amp though, so don't plan on being able to switch between all 3 channels without problems.

Got mine for $776! Got MF to knock off 20% on it then emailed ZZounds the order info to have them beat it for a grand total of $776.

As a guy who has and uses all 3 channels in a band, I disagree. It isn't as easy as the 100 watt, but doable...and I don't use any midi pedals or junk like that.

Don't you just hate getting f_cked in Canada? Happens all the time. We are almost better off shipping to PO box and picking it up and paying tax or hiding it under a pair of nikes.

So the blue channel knocked the GTO out the front door for you? The GTO is the only thing keeping my lynchbox in m amp collection right now really.

you're absolutely right. Fortunately for me, I do live on the Green and Red channel. Still looking for a way to make the Blue work for me, especially on a gig setting.

Love it and I don't have any issues with a volume drop. I keep the gain on the green/blue channel at about 1 o'clock so the clean isn't pristine but does what I need it to do. When I have the volume above 9 o'clock I can't really hear any volume drop

You guys with the massive volume drop between channels? What volume are you playing at? And have any of you tried setting the blue channel with the gain at about 11 o'clock (very Eddie type level of gain) and then backed off the volume knob on the blue channel? Killer clean tone with a little bit of grit on it. I never eeven switch to the green channel. And I run the red channel with the gain at about 9 o'clock.

The volume drop is definitely annoying and downsizing the amp versatility...

It is easy for an amp tech to go over it and make the clean channel matching the others as far as volume.
Also can be put in EL34 my friend... ;-)

Take care man !

I had 2 50 watters and they both flubbed out on channel 2 with the gain past noon. I really wanted to like that amp :(

fwiw, both guitars were ebmm axisssssss

I just confirmed that on Monday I am bringing my amp, cab, and guitar to Long & McQuade in Calgary, and they are going to let me set up in one of their practice rooms, and compare the amps, try some different cabs, and crank it up. I am also bringing in some gear I am selling to see what they will do on a trade. I am really looking forward to it!!

I have the same issues as Lord Toneking with mine. I can't run the blue channel gain anywhere past 9 o'clock. I'm a product of the 80s, so I don't need super modern high gain, but 11 o'clock is flub city on mine. No articulation, even with Duncan 59s. I wish I could, because 99% of the time, I get my clean exactly the way you say. Guitar vol rolled back, clean with a little grit. As it is, I can barely get there with the gain at 9 o'clock. The 100w is nothing like this and works perfectly in that regard. Going to order and try some different preamp tubes.

Red is a completely different story. Love that channel and like you, get some killer, heavy tones with the gain at 9 o'clock.

That doesn't work if you want pristine cleans though, which is one of the big advantages the EVH has over the Peaveys.

I've been stalking this amp for awhile....valuable responses here

Yep...that flub drove me freakin nuts! Thing is I LOVED the amp. I loved channel 2 but I just wanted a little more gain and it wasnt happening without the flub. Almost sounded 'octave-ish' it had so much flub. Channel 1 and 3 were perfect though

Wierd since I sent it back and Howard Kaplan hand picked and tested another head and sent it to me and I experieced the same problem. I thought it was my guitar after that haoppened
