MURDERATOR
Yay or nay? Killer or filler? They got it going on or keep on going? They have their own thing happening or glorified tsl? Asking for a friend…

I thought it was okay when I tried them a few times. Much prefer any DSL/TSL/JVM. I usually play 80's rock and metal. As always YMMV. Also lots of reliability issues if I remember correctly.

Yay for sure. As long as its the EL34 version, Ive had both the Blue one and the LM version (5881s). I'll get it again.

The modern brootal folk probably wont like it, but I thought all the channels were great, but Ive never played a TSL (only a DSL). The midi switching is very handy. Theres all sorts of tones in it, just avoid the contour control. Dont expect to go too far out of the marshall ballpark tonal flavours, cause it wont really. Like you wont get Recto gain or fender cleans. But you'll get a lot of other coolness.

One popped up on consignment semi local and I have always wanted to try one out. I’m supposed to be selling a couple units and if I do then I’ll snag it.

Well they were cool in 1992 that was 34 yrs ago and not if but when they need work they have about as many motherboards as 6 PC's.
You can pay them now or pay them later.
Despite all the gain channels Satch played one on the clean channel w/a Boss DS-1.
There's a guy in town here in a well known Pink Floyd tribute band that plays a 6100 into a Bradshaw rig somehow.

I never understood why Satriani did that. There must be something in that DS-1 that he likes. Those dirty channels on the 6100 are great.

I remember Satch saying something about the input impedance of this amp being special for some reason, which is why his DS-1 sounded good through it

Have no idea if that's even really a thing but that was his reasoning

They sound great, but mine had a catastrophic meltdown. When I finally got it back from the shop, I unloaded it as soon as I could. I was heartbroken. 🙁

They sound OK, but they are known for reliability issues, which is not surprising seeing as they look like a PC inside.
And they are 30 years old.
Cap jobs on those cheap-ass Marshall PCB's are always an adventure.
Wouldn't be surprised if some of those chips in the upper left corner of the gut shot ( which I believe are for the switching matrix ) are now un-obtainium.
The rainbow flag ribbon cable running through the middle of the amp is def a selling point though, if that's yer thing
Hard pass for me, but if ya feel like rollin' the dice maybe it will work out for ya.

Maybe.

Marshall JCM 900 Model 2100 SL-X. Introduced in 1993, the year after the 30th anniversary. Mine's a later one (1994 or later, with 5881 power tubes)

SL-X = Super Lead eXtended

IMO.

I used one for a couple of years in mid/later later 90’s. EL34 LM version. At band rehearsal it kicked my VHT UL to the curb. I only used the lead channel. Would put in the low compensate button (big bass boost) and adjust the bass knob low to get a low end I needed. I quite liked it. Can’t remember why I moved it along. I have some boom box recordings I did with it, with the band and I think it sounds great. Fuck, why did I sell that thing? 😂
I do remember not liking the first gen all that much. A little gritty or loose on the higher gain stuff maybe. Back then I definitely liked a, straight in amp that could do nice palm mutes and the early ones didn’t do that all that great.
The only issue I remember they had was the 1x12 combo’s would generate too much heat that couldn’t escape well and it would fry the midi.
I wouldn’t mind getting another EL34 LM, but would want to try it first to see how I feel about it now.
