69 Les Paul Custom Re Fret

Give Jay Kolanda a call - he's based out of Nashville and was an Artist Relations/Custom Shop luthier at Gibson. He knows his stuff. http://www.ntlguitar.com/

Also second the Gary Brawer recommendation if you decide to ship the guitar. He is amazing.
 
I also have been looking for someone to do fret and nut work on two les Paul's. I just hate to have to ship them being how many items I have had either disappear or damaged by shippers. I am in nj so either nj or Philly area would be great if possible. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah. It's been dressed a couple of times. The frets are done. :cry: it's been my #1 les Paul since 1984. Many many miles on it.

I agree with Reza.

I took my 61 SG/LP Special to Jerry two years ago and he did a totally f**king killer job of refretting the guitar, installing a new nut, and new pickups. You can hear it in this Scumback demo video by Pete Thorn.

It's got the jumbo nickel (6105?) frets, a new nut, and WCR G90 pickups in it. Came out great. Pete didn't want to give it back.
 
Another vote for Philtone (Phil Jacoby) in Baltimore.

He's done about 5 of my guitars over the past 2 years. I just picked up my Stephen Davies Tele that Phil refretted w/ jumbo SS's. Amazing work, every time. His new larger shop is complete and he is moved in.

Ugh, that sux. A good friend of mine finally broke down and refretted his older V, and it was never the same to him after that. :no: I think it's because he was used to it being messed up honestly, but there is that "something" that seems to happen with older guitars when you replace things on them, even if it's imagined. At any rate, if you MUST do it, at least get it plekked or whatever it's called. I have a silverburst LPC Axcess with a Floyed that came plekked, and it played like crazy right out of the box. My guitar doesn't have the same frets on it as a "regular" LPC though. It has standard Gibson sized frets just like my V's do. I love LPC's (used to have an early 70's, long story why I don't anymore), but I prefer the frets on a Standard or V. I'm babbling now.... Just get it plekked lol! ;)

Oh and since it's no longer going to be oringinal, get a new nut cut as well! Gibsons don't have deep enough cuts on them to use the strings I prefer, and they aren't tall enough to recut them without making the guitar buzz. I have to do this everytime I buy a Gibson with a normal nut on it cuz my low E string always pops out. Plus if your frets are that F'd up, I'm guessing there is some wear on the nut as well. If so, putting new frets with the old nut could cause some fret buzz. Y'know what I mean? :gethim:
 
Another vote for Philtone... but don't be in a rush... only drawback...

Yes, very highly regarded, one of the first to use the,Plek Machine and they do a lot of work for famous and
working Pros .

Really nice , down to earth guys...who are top technicians.
 
Whoever is closest to you and has a plek machine. I live in seattle and mike lull does all of my fret work. It comes out perfect every
time.
