A friend of mine just bought an amp that has 7591's . Are those tubes interchangeable with like a 6ca7? It's a 50 watt tube amp, American made in like 65'.

I don't think they are. I believe they are pentode tube loved by audiophiles.

I would just run it with those. JJ has 20 dollar replacements. Put a Marshall preamp in front of it.

As far as an equivilant, it seems that the EL34 and 6L6 have different pin outs than the 7591. You could research the approx. input impedance of the output transformer is and how much heater current they draw to find something similar. You might have to change out the cathode and screen grid resistors. It's probably more like a 6L6GC than a 6CA7.

Thanks guys, my friend got his hands on a 65' Hilgen Chamion 50 watt head that has these tubes. I know it's probably needing a retube. But they do sell these new so I guess he should just keep it stock.
