as posted my quest for a Lundgren M8 dream shattered knowing its too expensive.. I am settling for a set of good BKP for an 8 string which can do full bodied well balanced cleans, and aggressive edgy tight chugging with slight compression that's sweet and fat with good mids on the leads...

I been thinking of warpigs or Juggernaut pickup set... i do a posting here too cause members over at BKP forum seems to be very reserved on my post hahah ...

do post your BKP set you guys are using on your 8 string guitar and how you these BKP in your 8 string guitar..

I had an 8-string a few years ago with a Warpig bridge/Coldsweat neck. It did sound brutal, but I think if cleans are very important to you then you might be better going with the Jugg set, as I found the WP bridge to be very powerful and so not so good for nice cleans!

oh cool thanks for your insight :)

I had an 8 string headless with calibrated Holy Divers that sounded very balanced. It was swamp ash with a maple top. The neck pickup was nice clean, maybe had a little less body than I like when overdriven but the bridge pup was nicely focused.
I now have an (ash) 8 with Black Water Neodymium's in it and for what it's worth they sound great - dirty and clean/split; supposedly a little like BK Aftermaths' according to the guitar's previous owner but I haven't personally tried those BK's.
Also, for my Ibanez 7 string I have a calibrated set of Cold Sweat's which I like a lot, but have a set of BWGC's for it that I am going to swap out as I am pretty impressed with them on my 8.

thanks for sharing with your experiences with black water... it probably rate as the least talked about pickup as for what i know and its my first time looking at it... Mmmmm seems cool but i better get on with the masses ie BKP, Lundgren and motorcity pickup as what i know they only do 6 strings but maybe cost a bomb having them to make an 8 string...

not sure if you mean BWGC or Motorcity, but BW pickups are $245 for an 8 string set :)

I use a Painkiller on a 7 string and it sounds incredible. Amazingly tight low end with slicing highs.
I can get a great machine like tone if I want to. I love that grind.

Painkillers are some of the best pickups BKP has ever done for metal. I love those things.

To the OP: I don't understand why you can't do the Lundgren if you're looking at BKPs......it's not THAT much more new, and around the same price used...the M8 is a fantastic pickup for gain; I've never played anything more heavy duty. It doesn't matter how much gain you throw at it, it never flubs out. NOT the greatest for cleans, though. I think you'd be hard pressed to find something in an 8 string pickup that will do both really well.

Also, something I've learned in regards to your 2nd sentence. DON'T settle, dude. You're going to end up buying the Lundgrens anyway because you won't be able to stop thinking about them. I've spent a shitload of unnecessary cash on stuff that was supposed to take the place of something else, only to buy the first thing as well and take a hit on reselling the thing I settled for. I don't do that any more. I just wait and get what I really want or hunt it down used.

Free advice, man.

Take heed, this is wisdom!!! :D

what's the wood make-up of the guitar you're talking about? not to beat a dead-horse, but I played for hours last night w/my 8 (BWGC) and my Herbert and every channel loved the pups - from clean(1) to mean(3); the guitar is swamp ash and ziricote.

yeah thats really true ! i will also getta lundgren on my another 8 stringer ... i felt i needed a bkp for less highs and a tad more saturated and compress for the thickness... i been thinking of painkiller too but what i heard is that its not as edgy as other due to the large mids presence.. not sure but i need a pickup with decent clean and good chunky edgy with slight saturation and sweet when doing leads...
