i saw eric johnson live around 2008-2009 and made the drive to GA to see him, there is a good chance i heard this very same amplifier because he had a 100W marshall plexi and two cabinets setup on stage with it.

if thats the case, that damn thing sounds phenominal

I have two 69's one is a plexi and the other a metalpanel. Post pics when you get it and i can help you.

Just post pics and make sure it is close, if it is you are golden those are awesome-
Got a place to be loud!? J

Yeah, post some good pics and we'll let you know. Also, try the Metro Amp Forum. They know Marshalls inside and out.

I wouldn't say it was "implusive"... You've been wanting one for a LONG time. I think you just weren't prepared for this one to come around when it did. I see a Gibson LP in the near future for you......

Were the 10,000's less gainy than the 12,000's?

I find they're about the same, but I think the 10,000s (not to be confused with the 10,000s from 1967  ) sounded a little more aggressive. Unless you're talking about the ones from 1967, which were less gainy sounded a bit different in general.

As for the OP's amp...when you get it, if you can post some pics of the following in particular:

-date codes on the mustard caps (should be something like letter/number/letter)
-solder joints on the board (usually the original joints have red dye which tends to darken over time, and it should be easy enough to spot non original joints even if the red dye was faked)
-solder joints on the impedance and power transformer selectors (to see if the transformers were replaced), as well as the fuse holders (just to make sure the plexi panels are original to the amp)

And yeah, metroamp is worth checking out, but also http://www.vintageamps.com/plexiboard

Maybe you could call Bill Webb and try to get some additional verification. He may not remember it specifically, but if he did, it would lend some creedance to the story. May be worth a call or an email, and you might get some cool history at the same time ;)
The worst thing he could say would be " I've done a bunch of amps for EJ, its hard to say"

Looks good.....changed bias pot and caps and some filter caps. Other than that doesnt look like anything has been changed.

I'll take those top hats off your hands! :)

Looks great! I would only be concerned about the tube sockets and the impedance selector. Being as they look either original or at the least very old you may get intermittent issues from corrosion on the socket tabs. You may also want to get impedance selector hardwired for your desired impedance as those push in connectors notoriously get loose and can give you an intermittent connection which means intermittent load for your OT.

Thanks for the help, guys! I honestly thought it had some kind of gain mod because get it up around 6 on volume I and this thing really sings. The louder the better, - it's just really crunchy!

Seriously if u are having that kind of luck getting it to gain in a controlled way --that means you got a good one! Congrats

I don't really understand the issue. If it sounds amazing, keep it. These things make for terrible investments. Very few keep any sort of substantial value. And how many people get their hands on an amp with this kind of provenance?

The premise of the thread was whether it was genuine enough or if he should send it back, no?
