So I have an LTD mh400 from 2004 that I picked up almost 2 years ago, I love it, it's great considering what I payed, and IMO a better rounded guitar than some of the newer ones with thinner necks and bodies.

But anyway.. the saddles have worn away so occasionally, if I hit a big bend, which I do often, the string will be pulled away from the bridge, simply slipping out, the saddle has formed grooves from the strings. I replaced the whole set of saddles with some lic floyd rose parts that cost me £6 each, and last night, the G string slipped out, and when I put the string back in and tightened the strings, it did it again, I swapped the G and D string saddles over, put the strings back in and it was fine, but today, the D string popped out, not even when I was playing, I heard a famillier twang, looked over at my guitar and saw it.

Now.. I could buy an OFR low pro for £220 from GAK.com or take the chance on a more expensive licenced FR LoPro from here http://www.guitarpartsworldwide.com/?p= ... 1002143061

This site also stocks the Gotoh floyd rose that I've heard is very good, but they do not do the LoPro version, assuming the post-post and E-e saddle measurements are the same, will it retrofit, actually, will I be able to retrofit any bridge other than the ESP/LTD lic one? I don't need a bridge to be able to pull up on by the way, I've never had a desire to do so, I don't do whammy tricks but some nice light vibrato would be nice for chords.

I would just buy a set of saddles from FR but I cannot find them anywhere in the LoPro version. I have no preference about standard or lo pro by the way.

any tips/suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

I'd stay away from the licensed trems, except for the Gotoh and the Kahler Steeler. (I don't know if they started making them again or not, but it's a really great trem.) I think I would find out what the bridge post spacing is for the LTD, and base your purchase on that. Once you find out what models will fit with no modification, I'd look for a used one online.

Thanks man, assuming I can get a Gotoh one for a good price, will it fit even if mine is a LoPro and the gotoh is standard? If so I'll go for the Gotoh.

That will depend on how far out the saddle lock bolts stick out vs. how deep the trem sits in the body and how far back the rout is. If the bridge posts match, but you did have to mod, it would be enlarging the back of the rout. Personally I'd do that before filling the old bridge post holes and re-drilling, if that were the other option. Can you find a spec sheet for the Gotoh? I went looking for the Floyd specs on their site, but it appears to be closed, pending the debut of a new one.

I know the replacement licensed model could be easier to drop in, but without some valid confirmation that they hold up I'd be afraid I was just setting myself up for the old trouble to come back again.

Simple fix for you and it won't cost you a dime!!!

When you cut the ball off to insert the string into the saddle lock, clean cut the string right at the ball end where the string "Y"s out of the wind to go around the ball, leaving the winded part on the string, then insert that in the lock and clamp it down. :2thumbsup:

BTW, you are over tightening your clamps if you have string indentions in them. ;)

I thought that do, I push it just slightly over the point where I feel resistance. But i assumed it was just the really cheap brass from the lic floyd rose?

Gotoh trems are A1...really love mine. "Feels" just like an Edge trem. Much prefer it to the Schaller FRT-II on my Caparison. I picked up one for $140 off the net new...

Its def more low-pro than the Schaller or Real FLoyd as well...

I know they say the OFR is a drop in replacement for the old MH guitars.

Are the new ones that different? I have an old MH-301 I always think about replacing for a newer one, just because it is worn down.

I blocked the trem on mine. Makes it stay in tune  I love that guitar, but I always thought about replacing it with a newer MH-NT.

My guitar's an '04 model with the low pro before they changed it to a standard lic floyd and then again to a Floyd Rose Special (which I bet is the same thing just with FR slapped on the wing)

I'd like not to have to do any routing ofcourse, I'd especially like to avoid having to take the bridge pins out and have that re-routed.

What other factors are to be considered other than width between knife edge/posts and string saddles?

Can you elabourate on that please? Mine's a low pro lic flyod but I'd like to know if the Gotoh standard would retrofit.

I just measured the centre-centre of the two pivot posts, it's 74mm.Which is the measurement for the Gotoh, the LFR on that website is 73, I'm assuming either is fine?

What I need to know now is.

1. Will it fit providing the pivots are the right size

2. Will I be able to throw in a standard one in place of a Lopro?
