They did. Reviews weren’t great…Why doesn't Mesa re-issue the 5 band EQ pedal? It seems like it'd be insanely popular. Cool that this exists though.

im not sure, i love mine. i didnt know till recently they discontinued them, i figured it was a matter of time till someone came up with something. curious how this compares.
Every review I saw said they didn’t sound like the actual EQ’s on the Mark heads. Something about the lower voltage. Mesa made some custom dual EQs that were rack mounted. Those were legit but very rare and expensive.Really? That's so weird cause whenever they're listed, they get snatched really quickly.

What's the benefit of this over other graphic EQ pedals, like the MXRs? Seems like this would be even harder to use.
What I really want is a high-quality parametric EQ that operates on line level. The Ibanez Pentatone would be perfect, except it's only instrument level.

Yeah, I can say that's been my experience too. I tried using a Boss GE7 in the loop of my Mark IV and I turned off the Mesa graphic. Similar, but not exact.
Unfortunately, yes I'm sure. I contacted Ibanez and asked. They confirmed... instrument level only. They need to make an updated version with instrument/line level capability. Are you sure the Pentone is only Instrument level? I have always been curious about that, and one reason I haven't picked one up.
Yeah a rack graphic EQ would do the trick, but the Pentatone looks to have some really cool features. I just wish I could plop it into an FX loop. I don't want to have rack gear taking up space.I have an old Behringer rack parametric EQ that I bought because it is line level and IEC. I know it is Behringer, but their old 90s stuff was much better. I have always thought about picking up an old Ashley or something.
Maybe it's part psychological, but the Mesa 5-Band just worked well for me in the loop of everything I tried it in. Is it exactly like the built-in Mesa EQ? No, but it's close enough when I compared it in the loop of my MK3.
Somewhat related, I'd like to see is something along the lines of the old Furman PQ-3 or TC Electronic 1140.

That is a weird design choice. I know it doesn't have much boost on tap, so to make it instrument level where you expect to put it up front of an amp, but then not have enough boost to really work before an amp, but then not be able to take some loop levels. Just seems weird.
My favorite pedal EQ for line level is the MXR silver Graphic EQ.
