Check out this interesting article on 15 and 30 ips bass response with analog tape

http://www.endino.com/graphs/

In the 90's I used to use 499 at 30 and it would be real quiet, but the bass response at 15 ips is better overall for rock.

Here are a pair of vids from the mixing of 'I Tried'. We go into some detail about the mixes and show screen shots of plug in setting, some pretty cool stuff:

Almost done with basic mixing of track 4 of 5. We're gonna try and finish the 4th and 5th tracks tomorrow and then do tweaks on Saturday and then take a few days off and just listen to the songs and then do final tweaks early next week and then master next Friday.

A vid from us finishing mixing I Tried and starting the mix for I Miss Home:

James, only thing I don't quite get is the melody on the "LA" tune in the verses, over the Bb to Db part, I dunno if there's an intentional clash or it's just me... ?

Love the way you throw in the snippets of AC/DC as a mix reference. I used to use Back In Black a lot as a reference for almost everything in a rock mix. The low end, the guitars, the snare and the vocals. It really helped me reign things in when my ears would start to wear down.

Yeah you already mentioned that in an earlier post. The melody notes are intentional.

Mixing of 'I Miss Home' and 'Why Were You Kissin' Him'

I really dig how varied the songs are from eachother, but they still all fit perfectly together. Can't wait to get a copy....fantastic stuff Mr. James! Oh yeah, and the Reeves sound insane!

Love your writing, mixing and especially your vocals, bro!!!

Can't wait to have this rocking in my truck.

Thanks for lunch the other day and thanks for letting us hang out at your rockin' studio!!

Mark

That 71 Trem sits in the mix so well. It's a great raw rhythm tone.

New Mixes:

Why Were You Kissin Him – 15ips

Why Were You Kissin Him – 30ips
